Louis Geller Obituary

Louis Mitchell Geller July 15, 1955 - June 13, 2009 Son of Herman and Gloria Geller, loving brothers Glenn (Erica), Robert (Alana), beloved wife of 12 years Karnina, nieces Sofia and Ramona, numerous cousins and extended families, members, friends and colleagues. Louis was born in New York City, the oldest of three boys. His quick wit and good humor endeared him to everyone. Blessed with an amazing level of talent and creativity, he wrote songs and played music with a very young age. This passion for music continued throughout his life. Louis received a degree in Modern European History from the University of Maryland. His desire for lifelong learning and voracious appetite for reading made him a natural and effective teacher for both the San Francisco Unified and Los Angeles School districts for more than 20 years. Louis also provided compelling and essential testimony in front of a Senate Subcommittee on violence and its impact on local schools. He took special pride in the informal "coolest teacher" award given directly by his students. Louis enjoyed watching and participating in most sports, particularly basketball and baseball. In 1997 Louis was to meet the love of his life Karnina Seilui. They were inseparable to the end. Louis passed away quickly and unexpectedly and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. Friends may visit Friday, from 11am and are invited to attend the Funeral Service at 1pm, at DUGGANS SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Ave., Daly City. Burial to follow at Olivet Memorial Park, Colma. Memorial donations may be made in Louis Mitchell Geller's name, to the scholarship fund for the San Francisco Unified School District.

Lou was a real asset to humanity. He taught thousands of kids numerous subjects year after year. It was important to Lou that he always teach the truth, that he show his students all sides of a problem and guide them toward the most rational choice. The world is so much poorer without this self-less and sensible man. I'm sorry we couldn't keep you here a little longer Lou. My deepest sympathies to all who are touched by his very untimely death.

I am truly blessed to have known Lou. I'll always remember the times we partied like there was no tomorrow and then worried later how you'll explain to Karnina how you've had one too many drinks....bottoms up Lou. I miss you much.

Lou was my friend and former roommate after we got out of college.
Together with Larry, Mouse and me, we had a lot of great times discussing life, philosophy, and listening to good music. Lou was always impartial to, yet considerate of everyone he knew. I'm sad.
