Dear Ehren, For five years now, we who love you have been without your physical presence in our lives. You are no less loved now than ever, and thought of so often, sometimes with smiles at the happy memories and sometimes with tears at your absence. Today brings both. You were, and will always remain, a blessing in the lives of your family, dear Ehren. Remembering you with love always, Aunt Michele

Hi Angel, I was just at the check out at the store and I noticed a pack of Rolo's. You used sneak Rolo's into my cart or just talk me into buying you them all the time :) Needless to say, I'm now sitting in my car tearing..... strange how goofy little things can choke me up out of the blue.
Love you Angel!!!!

My dearest nephew: You have just celebrated your first Christmas with the One whose birth we all celebrated here. I know the joy and peace in your soul are beyond measure now, and I am thankful for that... but I, and all the rest of our family, will always miss you. It is hard every day, knowing you are not on this earth with us anymore, but perhaps hardest at those times of year when we most wish we could hug, see, or at least talk to, you. We will always love you, and know your love lives on with us. May all who love and mourn you carry on the ideals and purpose of your noble heart, and may God hold you close while we cannot.

I had the opportunity to meet this young man through my daughter's boyfriend. He spent the night at my house, and I thought it was cute how much he liked to eat. Even when I just got to speak to him one day, I cried so much when I found out about his death. My older daughter and I were driving towards Fayetteville NC, and my youngest daughter called us and told us the bad news. Right before she called us, we were singing and somehow dancing in the Mustang, as soon as we learned what happened, we went from singing to hysterical crying. We stopped the car and cried and cried. I just felt so bad that such a young person was gone. That kid was very sweet. God Bless his heart.
November 15, 2008
I just took my youngest for his learners permit. I thought of Ehren getting his. He wasn't scared, he went right in with a more excited bouncy stride then usual, and a huge metal glistening smile. After acing it, he talked me into letting him drive back. It was 10% yelling, and 90% laughter. Now I wish I hadn't yelled. But as always, I was trying to incourage smarter choices...yes, hiding the dog in the laundry basket was funny, hearding the neighbors cows with a golf cart was funny, etc, etc....but not to the dog or the cows....so I did my adult duty and yelled (sometimes having to force myself to keep a straight face)
I hope we can all remember the pranks and all the laughter during this first holliday season without him.
My prayers are with you Erica, Mike, and Karen.

Hi Angel,
I keep thinking about you, especialley at night when I lay in the the dark. I wonder when, or if, the crying will ever stop. I always thought you'd come back into my life and I'd get to meet your pretty wife and your cute kids, maybe even a son with that LONG name like yours ( I never could spell even the short one correctley)
I think about things I'd long forgotten...like when you helped me pick out my first new car. I was looking at MPG and consumer reports, you were talking me into leather and stereo systems...you always could talk me into stuff.
The opal necklace you boys got me for mothers day way back, I cherish even more now...I'm too afraid to wear it though.
Well, I guess if you ever had any doubts about how much we all loved you...you now know the answer.
I talk to you so much, I bet you're up there rolling your eyes wishing I'd shut up already. Well, it won't be anytime soon, so get used to it!
I love ya Babe!
OXOXO

Dearest Ehren, my son, I love you and miss you. Went to see you on Sunday the 20th for your birthday; your dad and Larry were there toasting a drink to you in honor of your 21st and left some scotch behind for you. I wish you were still with us. I deeply miss you and your sister is in need of some comfort from you. Please watch her closely from where you are, so high above, where the archangels sit, I presume.
Love, always, your mom

Nature
As a fond mother, when the day is o'er,
Leads by the hand her little child to bed,
Half willing, half reluctant to be led,
And leave his broken playthings on the floor,
Still gazing at them through the open door,
Nor wholly reassured and comforted
By promises of others in their stead,
Which, though more splendid, may not please him more;
So Nature deals with us, and takes away
Our playthings one by one, and by the hand
Leads us to rest so gently, that we go
Scarce knowing if we wish to go or stay,
Being too full of sleep to understand
How far the unknown transcends the what we know.

We do not know each other. My son is just north of two and a half. When I read of your loss, I tried to imagine what it would be like....and after I had retrieved most of the fragments of my heart from the walls, I came here to wish you what peace can be had, and to express my deepest gratitude for Ehren's service and sacrifice. My thoughts are with you --and with him-- in this unimaginably painful time. May his memory live on in the stories you tell of him, and in the security of the Nation for which he gave all.

Ehren was one of the teens who hung out at my house with the rest of the kids after school or sports events. He was unique though. Long and lanky, but wise beyond his years, hilarious, deep...
I could go on and on.
The cat he gave me STILL won't come to me unless I call her EXACTLY the way Ehren called her.
He touched more lives in 20 years then most do in 100 years (people and animals as well)
My condolences to his family.

To Ehren's family:
As the Chapter Advisor of SAE and more importantly, a friend of Ehren's, I could tell you that Ehren was a great guy. But you, as well as everyone who knew him, already know that. What I will tell you is that I know many people who strive their whole lives to be what SAE's call "the True Gentleman." Ehren, even at such a young age, was already there.
He not only could recite this passage by heart...he lived it everyday:
The True Gentleman
- by John Walter Wayland
"The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies; who does not make the poor man conscious of his poverty, the obscure man of his obscurity, or any man of his inferiority or deformity; who is himself humbled if necessity compels him to humble another; who does not flatter wealth, cringe before power, or boast of his own possessions or achievements; who speaks with frankness but always with sincerity and sympathy; whose deed follows his word; who thinks of the rights and feelings of others, rather than his own; and who appears well in any company, a man with whom honor is sacred and virtue safe."
Honor was most certainly sacred with Ehren. And virtue safe. God bless him and his family.

Our son lived down the hall from Pfc. Murburg at Ft Bragg prior to his going out to Camp Mackall for SFAS.
Our son said the weather had been terrible due to the excessive heat and the smoke in the area from the wild fires.
Our son said that Pfc. Murburg was very dedicated, worked out all of the time, ran, and was very determined to succeed.
My husband are so sorry that this happened to such a fine young man. It has really touched our hearts reading his sister's thoughts about her brother in all of the news articles that we have read online.
We are both retired Air force officers and appreciate these young men who choose to serve our country and put their lives in harms way.

Please accept my deepest condolences in your time of loss. Be proud because your son joined an all volunteer Army and then volunteered once again to become one of the worlds elite Special Forces Soldiers. While I did not have the opportunity to meet him, I thank each and every SF student for thier sacrifices and commitment in preserving our freedom. Without young men such as Norman, we would not enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today. I am deeply saddened with his loss yet I trust that the supreme commander has a different plan for him now. In closing, I'd like to share with you the Special Forces Prayer:
Almighty God Who art the Author of Liberty
and the Champion of the oppressed hear our prayer.
We the men of Special Forces, acknowledge our dependence upon
Thee in the preservation of human freedom. Go with us as we
seek to defend the defenseless and to free the enslaved.
May we ever remember that our nation, whose oath
"in God We Trust," expects that we shall requit ourselves
with honor, that we may never bring shame
upon our faith, our families, or our fellow men.
Grant us wisdom from Thy mind, courage from Thine heart,
and protection by Thine hand. It is for Thee that we do battle,
and to Thee belongs the victor’s crown. For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power and glory ~ forever.
Amen!

My boyfriend and Murburg roomed together in the barracks at ft bragg and i got the chance to hang out with him a few times. He was a fun, funny guy to be around and could really make someone laugh. Im so glad that my family and i got the chance to meet and hang out with Murburg. I could really tell he enjoyed being in the Army and that thus far, he had no regrets in joining even though he missed his family and friends back in Florida. Whenever i found out that Murburg had passed, it was definitely a shock. I couldn't believe that it happened. Murburg showed me his skills on putting a rubik's cube back together in less than 5 minutes and that was quite amazing! You will definitely be missed Murburg. God Bless Murburg's family and friends. I am so sorry for your loss.

For Norman Michael Murburg III,
Our Ehren
This is for you, most golden boy,
With hair of the sun and eyes of the sky,
With searching heart and soaring mind.
This is what always we sought to give you
And give you still, though you find
With the Lord now new life, and greatest joy.
You were the grace of two fine families,
Murburg and Goldblatt, whose essence
Gifted you with strength and beauty,
Intelligence and perseverance,
And the desire to push forward the boundaries
Of what was possible.
They gave you the name of your father,
And of your grandfather whom you never knew
But sought to touch with your life,
Both named after the Archangel warrior.
We called you “Ehren”, but you reclaimed “Norman”,
The old lineage now resting with you.
We give you the arms of love
That cradled your sweet infancy, embraced your awakening youth,
And slowly let go as you flew;
Arms filled with gifts that no longer matter.
Arms that long to hold you forever,
Relinquishing that privilege now to the Angels.
We give you the eyes of memory
That cherished the childish smiles, the dreams growing
Inside your soul that blossomed
Like a nascent star in the unfolding galaxies
Of tomorrow. The easy days of fun and frolic;
The hard days of doubt, now overcome.
We give back to you the swells of pride
You stirred, young soldier-- steadfast in your goals,
Selfless in your brotherhood,
Unwavering in your determination,
Passionate in your valor,
And true to your beliefs.
We give you the flag of the nation
you honored, that now honors you.
Your brothers in arms were the family
You sought for a lifetime, comrades
Joined in the purpose that fulfilled your dream
Of giving all you were to what was noble and good.
We give you the tears of our hearts, rent
By your too soon passing from us.
For all we had not the chance to give,
To say, to share ,
For all you had not the chance to do, to be.
And yet your too brief light was glorious.
We give you our words, learning a new way.
In our souls we cry out for you, and your spirit hears,
And we hear you, although not with our ears.
Our hearts call out to you to stay with us;
Your soul answers in its silence
That you wait for us.
Rest peaceful now, in the arms of God.
See now with the eyes of the eternal,
Your name written ever in our hearts.
The proud flag flies on the wings of your valor.
Rest well and remember in your endless soul not our tears,
But our love that follows you always.
This is for you, Angel Boy,
With hair of the sun and eyes of the sky,
Brilliant youth, determined soldier,
Who gave without reservation your beautiful life
Which we will all celebrate, all remember,
Awaiting that day when we join you forever.
