James Johnson Obituary

Johnson, James Carl Sr. of St. Louis MO passed away in his home Wednesday morning July 19, 2006.
Born January 18, 1931 to Beatrice Willis and Jess Phillips. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years Lucille Z. Johnson. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Saundra J. Hudson and Dr. James Hudson of Edwardsville; daughter Dr. Victoria Johnson of Philadelphia and son James C. Johnson, Jr. of Atlanta; Grandchildren: Nicole Hudson, Dr. Kira Banks (Aaron), Yamani Hernandez (Andres), Kente Johnson Taylor, Jasmine Brewer and Jamaal Johnson (Le). Great-grandchildren: Ysrael and Esai Hernandez, Jamaal Jr. and Aaliyah Johnson, and J. MacKenzie Brewer.
Mr. Johnson was born in Hillsville, TN, and moved to St. Louis as a young child where he was raised by his aunt Elizabeth Willis and uncle Robert Johnson. He was employed by the US Postal Service for 18 years before owning and operating his own business, J&L Liquors, for 20+years. Before retiring again, his business was listed by Dunn and Bradstreet. He was an avid sports fan, and read the entire paper daily from cover to cover. His men's softball team was the first team of color to integrate the St. Louis Municipal Softball League. He also spent some time as the president of Noble Men Social Club.Services: Visitation at 9 a.m., services at 10 a.m. both at Wade Funeral Home-Twin Chapel, 4800 Natural Bridge, Saturday, July 22. Burial immediately following at Calvary Cemetery.

Papa was a fiesty man with a lot of heart. sometimes you don't realize how much you love someone until they are gone. he holds a special place in my heart and the family is forever changed in he and grandma's absence.
