I was so incredibly saddened when Dane's brother Chad called me early last week following Dane's passing. I was taken back for several days in disbelief. Dane was such a wonderful and valued friend. I have spent the past week reflecting on our many memories together individually and with friends throughout our youth, school, college, and early into our careers. He was the pillar of life that so many admired and respected. I first met Dane (and Chad) as a child walking through our neighborhood when our families moved around the same time. That was the beginning of a great relationship, good times and adventures with Dane. He was like a big brother to me, and his family was my second family. I will miss Dane, but will always have deep and valued memories throughout my life. My deepest condolences and thoughts are with Chad and Julene at this very difficult time.

It is difficult to describe Dane using mere words. Anyone who met Dane knows the feelings they had when in his presence. He always had a smile on his face, and his hand extended to help. Dane had a way of uplifting everyone around him. He was upbeat, even at the end. It was sad to see someone so strong and vibrant taken from us before his time; he will live forever in our hearts. I am glad to have known him, and like many others, to have called him my friend.

Oh dear Dane and all of your family. I'm so saddened to hear of your passing. I
was fortunate enough to text with Dane before he passed. So at least he knew I was thinking of him. Although I hadn't seen Dane in decades he always has held a special place in my childhood heart. He will be missed. Fly High Dane.
Sending you all my LOVE. Wendy Wheeler Merrill
