John was a dear friend of mine growing up-- in fact i vividly remember him the first day of class in elementary! I use to ride (cycling) in charity events with him when we were young, and spent the next years through school with him being a cherished friend! This is a very sad day for me and I will always remember him as a great friend!! My condolences to his family and friends!

This was written for you John, my dearest cousin, back in 2004. I never shared it with you, despite suggestions that I should have. So now I am... I guess there are no demons left to hide from. I will always love and miss you, Boy Blue.

To This Day

Your days still make me weep
for all your losses
far too young and undeserved
you'd give back every dime for
one day, one hour, one minute
--one breath--
so would I, love, so would I.

The eyes of your young ones
are theirs - and my brother's as well...

Across the miles
in the darkest of night
my heart reaches out to touch yours
I still taste the tears you hide...
even when you mask them
behind your impish smile
--to chase the demons away--
I still do, too...every day even still.

You're so skilled in hiding
behind laughter -- I learned that well from you
They never understood, did they?
(they still don't)

These decades of twilight
we've never laid them to rest, have we?
You replaced my loss...
I could never - nothing ever could
replace yours...

To this day, your barley whisper
with ashtray subtleties
can wake me like a feather.
Our childhood souls collided
--bloodlines are our bond--
memories of loss and gain
run deeper than our veins...
deeper than the sea.

Someone once wrote:

"Work like you don't need the money.
Live like you have nothing to lose.
Sing as if no one is listening.
Dance as if no one is watching."

If ever a person live by that code it was John. He lived his life in the light and never in the darkness. He was a man his boys would do well to try and live up too. J. K. was my friend and I will miss him always; yet I know he rests in peace with the Lord. J. K. touched many lives in his short 40 years young, and that will never be lost on those he touched.

Oh what a loss! John was willing to be the hero to anyone who needed one - what a rare breed. He never, ever complained but was always ready to smile, to offer to help, to entertain with stories of his many adventures, with a twinkle in those very blue eyes. I loved how he'd greet his friends with such a hug he'd lift you off the ground. I know those boys he loved so much will carry that spark forwards.

John was a man who reached beyond himself and his own difficulties to extend a hand in friendship and support to others. Our Theresa was a beneficiary of his generosity of spirit. May he rest in peace, and may his beloved sons learn to follow his example, always.

I first met John through WP when he sold me a truck a few years ago. Since then he and my Dad became friends. John and his boys would visit Dad every now and then to go fishing. My prayers go out to those cute little boys. John will be missed.

John and I went to middle school togther, we would come into contact again 20 years later in the car business. He was a big kid at heart just like back in school. He was always putting others first and always willing to lend a helping hand.

What a shock! John was one of the first friends I had when I moved to San Antonio 26 years ago in the 8th grade and remained a friend all through high school. Although we didn't stay in touch much over the years, when I would see him it was as though a day never passed. John's presence will be missed in this world. God bless his family!

John's dad and his family were boyhood neighbors and friends. Jack, Bob Mooty and I stuffed papers at the SA Light. We three drove to Guaymas, Mexico to go spearfishing when we were 16. I am so sorry to hear of John's passing, as I always wanted to look him up to visit about his dad. My sincere condolences. Walter (Wally) Goodenough

My prayers are with the Kraus family at this time. I was a friend of his Aunt Lori's, and remember going to his 3rd birthday party. Seems like yesterday. I am comforted in knowing that he was welcomed to his home in Heaven by the loving arms of his Mom and Dad.
Blessings to the Kraus family.

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
