Albert J. Ullman

Albert J. Ullman - SAVANNAH - Albert Jacob Ullman, 84, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Harriet Birnbaum Ullman, died Friday afternoon, June 13, 2008, at his home under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was a son of the late Samuel Ullman and the late Freda Wolson Ullman. Mr. Ullman attended Benedictine Military School and graduated from Ridgeland High School. He attended The Citadel for two years. Mr. Ullman was a United States Army veteran having served in the 11th Airborne Division assigned to the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment as a medic in the South Pacific. He served his country from 1942-1946. Mr. Ullman served as Mayor of Ridgeland, South Carolina for four terms and was instrumental in forming the Jasper County Development Authority. He was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim, where he was a member of the Agudath Achim Brotherhood. Mr. Ullman owned and operated Ullman's Department Store in Ridgeland, later worked for Chatham Steel, andretired as manager of Segall and Sons Department Store. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Stephen Ullman, Mark Ullman and Allan Ullman. Surviving are his wife of almost 61 years, Harriet Birnbaum Ullman; his daughter, Susan Slotin and her husband, Frank; his son, Jeffry Ullman and his wife, Ellen; four grandchildren, Sam and Hannah Slotin and Zachary and Sasha Ullman, and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Sunday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Kenneth R. Leitner.
