Mary, thank you so much for emailing me. I count it an honor that you found my business card in Doby's desk. Pat and I had learned of your sad news from the FPC Savannah newsletter. We remember the wonderful support that we received from Jane and Doby and a number of fun Sunday School Christmas parties at their house! There are many Savannah saints who have gone to their reward that we look forward to seeing again "one day." We've been gone 20 years now, but at times like these it just doesn't seem that long. Peace, Bob

Ruth and I saw Doby last year at the Sigma Chi reunion, after 50+ years. We had kept in touch VERY sporadically, although we had been close before we left Georgia Tech. Doby and I were in each other's weddings -- his to Jane, mine to Ruth. Years later, we were saddened by news of Jane's death.
Thanks, Mary, for calling us with the news. We'll tell our other friends from that time, as many as there are left!
With love and sympathy, and regret at losing a good friend,
- Bob & Ruth Hutton

Hal, John, Mary and family:
My heart is deeply saddened to hear this news today. Your father was such a 'joyforce' at First Presbyterian Church for so many years. His signature greeting, "Morning Glory" - got each Sunday off to a bright and cheery beginning.

Since leaving FPC, I have had the honor of running into him at least once a week along the sidewalk near Clary's. Our sidewalk chats were such a special part of lunchtime for me.

In 1997, your father made a point to assist mine with church duties that had become difficult for Daddy during his cancer illness. By doing so, he helped my father maintain a sense of duty - but also demonstrated what we all know about Doby - faithful servant, willing to help.

My deepest sympathies during this time. He will be truly missed by so many, and the sidewalk near Clary's will never be quite the same again.
