Sharon Raymond Obituary

LEE — Sharon Lynn Raymond, 42, of Lee, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 2, 1966, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, the daughter of Thornton G. Tobey and Carole Mary (Muder) Blethen.

Sharon was raised in Kittery, Maine, and graduated from R.W. Traip Academy in 1982.

She married Henry Raymond in 1986. They had two children, Eric Logan Raymond, age 18, and Grace Loren Raymond, age 7.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her father, Thornton G. Tobey and partner Norma Valentine; mother Carole Blethen and husband Larry; sister Debra Fredette and partner Carol Stiles; brother Brandon Blethen and wife Whitney; niece Amanda Tobey; and nephews Christopher Tobey and Mark Washburn and wife, Lisa, and their two, children Olivia and Blaine.

She was predeceased by her brother, Christopher Russell Tobey, who died May 11, 2008.

WE REMEMBER: Sharon attended Norwich University in Vermont, the University of North Dakota and New Hampshire Technical College.

She became a licensed practical nurse in 1995 and a registered nurse in 1996. Sharon was well known and loved in the community as a skilled and compassionate nurse. She was an administrative nursing supervisor at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester for 10 years. She also worked as a nursing supervisor at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. She made dear friends at her work places, making them a part of her family.

Sharon wanted her children to know that they were the most important things in the world to her. She was a nurturing and loving mother and an incredible advocate for their educational needs.

Sharon established the Reach to Recovery Program at Frisbie Memorial Hospital and volunteered to help newly diagnosed breast cancer patients cope with their situation. She was also a Reiki practitioner and she offered her services for free as a way of giving back to others.

Sharon was a fabulous cook, making everything from extravagant meals with her husband for family gatherings to her top secret recipe for carrot cake for her brother's wedding.

Sharon loved spending time with her family and she was especially fond of the beach. She adored her devoted golden retriever, Dakota, also known as "Fatty." Sharon was deeply loved by her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, nurse and role model.

I feel privileged to say that I had the opportunity to work with Sharon. Incredible RN and patient advocate. Not many nurses have the special qualities and talent that Sharon possessed. I admire her strength and courage during her fight for life and also her family's strength in supporting her. She may be physically gone from our lives but she will never leave my thoughts. What a nurse, what a person and what a great role model. Our paths crossed for a reason! And I will never live down the "recees and kilbasa" joke from Sharon.

To Sharon's family and friends,
Sharon was one of the sweetest, kindest, and most caring person who I know will be missed by all.
I volunteer at the hospital which gave me some special moments/times to talk with Sharon. She so loved her family and her friends,as well as co workers.
all of you played such a special part in her life and during her most difficult times. It was you that gave her hope and the courage to keep strong and wear thata beautiful smile.
One of my volunteer postions is that I visit with patients to talk with them about many things. Of course, I always hear about the staff, Sharon being one. How they loved her , her humor, her sincere heart for them, always caring about not just thier illness but them as a person. They would laugh with her, listen to her advice and rsepect her as a nurse and as a person.
Sharon will live on forever , in the hearts of many many people.
She will be missed for many reasons, her loyal friendship, her knowledge, her smile, her laughter, her courage and of course her cooking and all those special treats she use to bake. I love that special secret " carrot cake" that she would never share, lol always saying it is a family secret.
We have so many special memories, they never die but remain to help us cope with the loss.
Sharon, I know your angel now looking over all of us, still caring that we feel loved.
What a grand celebration it must have been when you entered those gates. Having your brother greet you must have been one awesome site.
You will always be remembered

To all of Sharon's family,
As an in-patient physical therapist, I had worked along side Sharon during her years at Frisbie. One of my 1st memories of her was when she was expecting Grace and she was sharing with staff at work the 1st name her then 7 yr old son had picked out for his baby sister.. I think it was "Velvet or Violet" something. She got such a kick out it and it made us all smile too.
She wasn't afraid to stand up for what she believed was the right thing to do and she knew how to get things done. She was a force to be reckoned with, and as I have learned, a tower of strength.
I will also remember her delicious baked goods that she so generously shared with all who visited her Nursing floor.
With deepest sympathy to you during this difficult time.

To Sharon's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Sharon was a wonderful person, and she showed great strength and courage every day, no matter the circumstances. She was a true professional and her sense of humour helped all of us on those hectic evenings. She brought a sense of teamwork to the staff, as well as her best cookie recipies. She had the best smile--it lit up the room. I know that she is watching over us as an angel now. My prayers are with you and always with her. Jessie

When I think of Sharon I remeber the little girl who didn't like to get dirty and insisted on wearing a dress all the time. I remember the special friendship she shared with my daughter Jolene, the many sleepovers, and the secrets they shared (if only for a little while) especially on one particular New Year's Eve.

Then there's the memory of a beautiful blushing Bride on her wedding day, walking towards Henry, with her dress that had a mile of ruffles.

I remember the excited expectant mother who jokingly said she wanted a present for the baby every time I saw her and the smile on her face when I complied. I remember the devoted wife & mother whose Love knew no bounds.

I will also remember the woman who fought cancer with strenght, courage, & an iron will. She truely was an inspiration to all of us.

To Sharon's loving family & friends, my heart aches for you during this great time of sorrow. May your memories help to ease some of your pain, for memories are like a treasure chest...all you have to do is open the lid and they come flooding out, which I hope will help to restore your smile. With caring thoughts and love - Nancy

My darling friend Deb,
My heart aches for your loss. Having grown up with you, Sharon was always in our picture as well. I was blessed to have known Sharon as an adult ... and to have our children (Dan & Eric) play together. I know Sharon left this world to go to a better place. No more pain, where she is at; no more worries either, for she knows how faithful you will be to Henry, Eric and Grace. You are an angel Deb.

To Sharon's Family~
I first met Sharon when we both worked at Rochester Manor several years ago. I remember her giving me a gift during Social Worker's Month and how that made me feel. She was the only person to acknowledge how special this was to me, especially being a brand new social worker! Sharon and I worked together again at Frisbie Memorial Hospital. I was so happy to be working with her again. She always had such a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She was loved and respected by her co-workers and patients. She really cared and made a difference. I truly feel blessed that our lives crossed paths. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
And to Sharon~
