Eric Offenbacher Obituary

Dr. Eric OFFENBACHER Born May 2nd, 1912 Frankfurt Am Main, Germany. Passed away January 5th, 2009 in Seattle, Washington. Preceded in death two years ago by his loving wife of 68 years, Gertrude Offenbacher. Eric emigrated to America in 1934 to escape Nazi tyranny. He practiced dentistry in New York City for 40 years and he and Gertrude retired to Seattle to be near their daughter in 1979. He was very involved in many aspects of Jewish religious and communal life throughout his long lifetime. He was also a famed musicologist with a specialty in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He donated most of his extensive Mozart collection to the University of Washington and to Harvard University. He is survived by four loving daughters, Ellen ( Robert) Friedman, Chicago - Evelyn ( Naftali ) Stern, Haifa, Israel - Edna (Ernest) Bechhofer, New York - and Eva ( Eli) Genauer, Seattle. Also by 12 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Special thanks to his daughter Eva who doted on him daily and to the staff at the Kline Galland Home where he spent his last three years. Remembrances to the Kline Galland Home or to Bikur Cholim Chesed Fund. Services arranged through the Seattle Jewish Chapel with funeral services and burial in New York. Shiva will be observed at the home of Edna Bechhofer in New York.
