Mary NORTH Mary Margaret Finley North passed away in her home on February 13, 2009. She was born to John Finley and Ellen Quincannon Finley in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on June 20, 1919. She had lived in Seattle since 1946. After attending business college, Mary fulfilled her childhood dream by becoming one of the first flight attendants with Northwest Airlines. Mary proudly flew until she married the love of her life, Ovid E. (Ed) North of West Seattle on April 15, 1950. Mary continued with Northwest Airlines until 1954, when she founded Mary North Travel, Inc. Over the next four decades Mary travelled extensively and opened the experience of world travel to countless people. Mary's Catholic faith was integral to her life and she was known for conducting pilgrimages around the world. Mary was devoted to her family. She is survived by daughter, Mary Ann Egerman and husband Mark Egerman of The Woodlands, TX, son, John W. (Jack) North and partner Peter Thomas of Magnolia, and son, Patrick North and partner Kevin Peterson of West Seattle. She is survived by three grandchildren, Lourdes Nicole (Niki) Egerman of West Seattle, John Michael Egerman of Houston, TX, and Lauren North Egerman of San Antonio, TX. She is also survived by her sister, Veronica Cook, of Elkhorn, WI. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ed North, in 2004. They were married for more than 54 years. She was also preceded in dea th by four brothers and one sister. We are forever indebted to Mary's caregivers, Sherrill Speed, Pinky Cajes, and Vina Apellanes for the love, compassion and care they provided to Mom. These dedicated women helped make it possible for Mary to remain in the home where she had lived for the past 52 years. Mom will be forever in our hearts. A consummate hostess, Mary was gracious and welcoming to all who entered her life. Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, February 19th, in the Chapel at St. James Cathedral. I was one of the many many "pilgrims" priveleged to tour with a Mary North pilgrimage. My most sincere sympathies and continued thoughts and prayers! Father Willam Treacy offered a Mass in memory of Mary for us.

Pat,
I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. She was the epitome of class. Even as a young girl at Holy Family, I remember seeing her at the school or at mass and intuitively I knew I was in the presence of someone very special.
I'll never forget your Mom's Cadillacs! How I dreamt that I would one day have such a fine car. And the one time I got to ride in the blue Eldorado (circa 1975), your Mom so tiny behind the wheel of that prodigious vehicle, I knew I would never forget that moment. Clearly, I haven't. A great memory created by a great woman, your Mom.
I am thinking of you and your family with deepest sympathy.

I never knew Ms. North but I do remember writing to her travel agency as a middle school student at Madison looking for photos of Spain. Her office was very nice to send me travel brochures. I have always remembered that. Thank you. You will be missed.
