Dustin Fisher fell in love while stationed at Fort Stewart and got married just before leaving for Iraq. He couldn't wait for a two-week leave in June to see his new bride, Alicia. When he brought her to Arkansas to meet his family, Fisher's father could see a change. "It was obvious he was a man, and I think his family has to credit her for that," Waldo Fisher said. Dustin Fisher, 22, of Fort Smith, Ark., was killed May 24 when an explosive detonated near his vehicle in Baghdad. Fisher loved to drive around town in the pink Chevrolet S-10 pickup that his dad got him for his 16th birthday. "He used that S-10 to get his girlfriends," said his mother, Brenda. "He was just a very tender-hearted person," she said, adding that he was a "man's man" who loved to hang around with the guys. The 2001 high school graduate tried college for a year, but it wasn't for him. He had planned to re-enlist in the Army, but after getting married he was considering becoming a firefighter instead. "He had his whole life planned and now it's no more to be," his mother said.
