Christopher S. Perez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 26, 2005.
Christopher S. Perez was a military recruiter, but he yearned for active duty. "He told me, 'Mom, I didn't join the Marines to sit behind a desk,'" said his mother, Mary Oliver. Perez, 30, of Hutchinson, Kan., requested assignment in Iraq, where he was killed May 23 while under attack by insurgent forces in Ramadi. He was based at Camp Lejeune. Perez was a high school wrestler who loved lifting weights. He joined the Marines after high school graduation in 1992. His father, John J. Perez, described him as a determined and strong-willed man who also had an outgoing personality. "When he came into a room he was the life of the party," he said. "That's when everything started moving. He had good stories to tell." Christopher Perez maintained daily contact with his mother on the Internet. "He worked very hard and helped me raise his brothers and sister," Oliver said. "He was a daddy figure to them." Perez is survived by a wife, Angela, and three children, Sean, Alyia and Austin.

My sweet nephew. As we all know your oldest son is not doing well. And his life is in Gods hands. I know you will be at the gates of heaven waiting for him. Love and miss you. Always in my heart.

Sgt. Perez, It has already been 18 years since you sat down across the table from me in my parents living room to discuss joining the Marines. While that was never to be, I am thankful for the short opportunity to have known you, an American hero, whose memory I will forever keep alive in my heart. Your ultimate sacrifice serves as a personal reminder that freedom truly in not free. May God richly bless your family as they carry on without you on this earth, holding you near to their hearts throughout.

To the family of Sgt. Perez,
Please know that just as your loved one will remain in your hearts and minds, his sacrifice and that of your family, will remain with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God grant you the peace that passes all understanding.

In Memory of Christopher ~ (Debra Estep)

May 23, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

You are remembered and respected. Thank you Sgt Perez!

July 27, 2007

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

My oldest brother Chris was a hero, not only to me, but to my family as well as the millions of people in this country that he faught for in Iraq. It is an honor and a privlage to be able to tell great stories of Chirs's life to his children, nieces, nephews, and anyone else who didn't have the chance to experience how great of a man he was. It hurts my heart to know that he's gone but I know that Chris would want me to be strong for my mother and the rest of my family.

Chirstopher was like a brother to me. Watching him grow into the man he became was inspiring to all of us. His godchild continually asked questions about him, wanting to know how he was doing in New York and so on. Although, Trae did not know him well, he was very proud to be his godchild and I was proud to be his comadre, and cousin!!! He will live strong and forever in our hearts, he was a great man and I am proud to have grown up beside him and shared my life with him, we have such great memories!!!
