Reta White Obituary

Whitman Reta G. (Burgess) White, 90, of Whitman, died Sunday, June 1, in Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Earl White. She was born in Lynn, brought up in Fitchburg and Canada, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary (Desbarres) Burgess. Reta had been a resident of Whitman for over 60 years and a communicant and a very active member of the Holy Ghost Church. She was also a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality and Our Lady Fatima Cell. She was a volunteer at the St. Francis Thrift Shop and she taught catechism. In her younger years, she was Cub Scout den mother. She is survived by her children, Earlene Lally of Hanover, Carl White and his wife Sandra of New Hampshire, Mark White of Whitman and Gale Twomey and her husband George of Whitman; also 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Reidy, Matthew White, Amy Beswick, Bill Lally, Matthew Twomey, Bradley White, Lindsay White, Joshua Twomey, Jeffery Lally and Allison White; and six great-grandchildren, Michael Reidy, Billy Lally, Abigail White, Emma Lally, Eloise White and Samantha Twomey. She was also the sister of the late M. Lillian Burgess. Her services will be held Thursday, June 5, at 9:15 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary), Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4, from 4-8 p.m. Donation may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o Holy Ghost Church, 518 Washington St., Whitman, MA 02382.
