Ella Ament Obituary

Abington Ella G. (Horne) Ament, born in Abington, Oct. 29, 1917, passed away April 23, 2008, in Sierra Vista, Ariz. She had been a resident of Abington for 50 years. Daughter of the late Benjamin and Clara (Nickerson) Horne, she had two sisters, the late Barbara and Merle Horne. Following the death of her mother and sister Barbara, Ella took care of her disabled little sister, Merle, by working in a factory in Whitman, often walking over a mile to work in the snow when necessary. Upon Merle's passing, Ella, then in her 50s, moved to Palominas, Ariz., to attend the Miracle Valley Bible College. After graduation, she worked at the college for many years. It was at the Bible College that she met her husband, Chauncey, to whom she was married for 20 years, until he passed away in 1997. During their marriage, Ella and Chauncey traveled to nursing homes and other facilities in the Palominas and Sierra Vista, Ariz., area entertaining with singing and playing of the accordion and keyboard. Ella had a beautiful voice and her singing was admired by many. She was a member of the Church of Palominas Assemble of God for many years. Hers was a life of friends, religion and beautiful singing. She is survived by many friends in Arizona and cousins in Massachusetts, including her loving guardians, Russell and Phyllis Wheatley of Abington, to whom she was affectionately known as "Cousin Ella." A memorial service was held in Arizona in April and she will be buried in a graveside ceremony at Mount Vernon Cemetery in Abington at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008.
