Roger Nieuwenhuis Obituary

Carver Roger G. Nieuwenhuis, of Carver, died July 6, 2008. He was 78 years old. Mr. Nieuwenhuis was raised in the midwest, and worked on his familys farm while growing up. When he turned 18 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Portsmouth, R.I., he met his wife, Dolores at Dunningtons in Taunton. He went on to spend nine years serving in the Navy. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Dolores for 50 years. Following his time in the Navy, Mr. Nieuwenhuis worked for 27 years for the Western Union Corporation. He enjoyed following current world events, as well as closely following political news. Mr. Nieuwenhuis was a member of the American Legion Post 40 in Plymouth. He was the husband of the late Dolores Nieuwenhuis; loving father of Glenn N. Nieuwenhuis of Taunton, Karen M. Nieuwenhuis Rezendes of S. Dartmouth, Scott A. Nieuwenhuis of Taunton and Craig S. Nieuwenhuis of Rhode Island; brother of Blaine Nieuwenhuis of Washington and Blanche Petersen of California; grandfather of Alyssa Rezendes and Eric Rezendes, both of S. Dartmouth and Kaleigh Nieuwenhuis, Thomas Nieuwenhuis and Daniel Nieuwenhuis, all of Taunton. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, July 9 from 4 8 p.m. at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 116 Main St. (Rte. 58), Carver. A graveside service will be held at the MA National Cemetery in Bourne, Thursday, July 10, at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics Massachusetts - Dartmouth, which is a charity very close to Rogers heart.
