Milton Plourde Obituary

Brockton Milton D. Plourde, known as "Bumpa", 93, lifelong of Brockton, died August 9, 2008, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family, at the V.A. Medical Center. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II as a TSgt. with the 15thAF 745th Bomb Squadron. As a member of the crew of ten of a B-24 "Paper Doll" shot down over Klagenfurt, Austria, he was held by the Germans as a prisoner of war for 13 months and 7 days. He co-owned Plourde Display, worked at General Dynamics, and was a nursing aide retired from the Brockton V.A. Medical Center. He was a member of VFW Post 1046, DAV and 456th Bomb Group Association and enjoyed woodworking and was a former member and tourguide for Brockton Historical Society. He was the husband of the late Mary (McLaughlin) Plourde; beloved father of Michael (and his wife Gail) Plourde of Brockton and Jonathan Plourde of Seekonk; devoted grandfather of Michelle and Michael Plourde of Brockton, dear great-grandfather of Craig Faria III; brother of Lorraine Adams of Hopkinton and the late Reginald and Jeannette Plourde and Muriel Sadlier; and uncle of many. All are welcome to calling hours, Tuesday, 4-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral Wednesday, at 8 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Parish and burial at Melrose Cemetery. Mr. Plourde,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USAAF during WW II in the 15th Air Force as a B-24 Liberator bomber crewman flying missions over Southern Europe out of Itay-especially as a Prisoner Of War-God knows what hardships you had to endure. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
