Helen F. Chambers

WAREHAM Helen Frances (Stearns) Chambers, 80, of Wareham, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, at home, after a long illness. She was the widow of the late Julius M. Jay Chambers Jr. She was born July 6, 1928, in Tarrytown, N.Y., a daughter of the late Frederick A. and Genevieve M. (Brown) Stearns. She was raised and educated in New Jersey, Massachusetts and resided also in New York State. She moved to Wareham with her husband, Jay, in September 1976. Mrs. Chambers worked for the New England Telephone Company for many years before retiring in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Leslie J. Quinn of Mt. Pleasant, S. C. and Pamela J. Moore of Wareham; two brothers, Frederick M. Stearns of Wareham and Richard V. Stearns of Park Ridge, N.J.; a sister, Dolores A. Tillson of Athens, N.Y.; her former husband, Paul C. Quinn of Abington; three grandchildren, Roger C. Hanscome, Christine M. Moore and Alicia C. Moore; a great-grandson, Ryan P. Hanscome; and several nephews and nieces. A great lover of animals, she is also survived by her cat Prissy. She was the sister of the late William P. Stearns. Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patricks Church, 82 High St. Burial will follow in the Agawam Cemetery.
