Robert Johnson Obituary

Robert S. Johnson EAST BRIDGEWATER Robert S. "Bob" Johnson, 52, of East Bridgewater, died Oct. 15, 2008, after an apparent heart attack. Born in Weymouth, Aug. 10, 1956, he was a son Merilyn Johnson and the late Frank Johnson. Bob was active in Boy Scouts and Little League. He graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1974, where he participated in cross country, hockey, Key Club and the Ski Club. Bob was an avid outdoorsman. He liked to camp, canoe, ski and snowmobile. He enjoyed reading, a wide variety of music, bonfires and relaxing. But most of all, Bob loved visiting and talking with all kinds of people. It was very important to him to lend a helping hand whenever possible. Bob traveled extensively throughout the United States with both family and friends. Bob also volunteered on the National Flag Truck, having many unique experiences, including being up and on the actual faces of Mount Rushmore. In addition to his mother Merilyn Johnson, he is survived by two brothers, Ted and Scott Johnson of East Bridgewater; two sisters, Carol and Jill Johnson of East Bridgewater; two nephews, Cory Johnson of East Bridgewater and Angell Kroese of Tennessee; nieces, Leanne and Amy Johnson of East Bridgewater. He was also the loving companion of Lisa (Julius) Troy of Avon. Visiting hours will be held Monday, Oct. 20, in the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, from 4-7 p.m. Immediately following, a memorial service will be held in the Commercial Club of East Bridgewater. Donations may be made in Bob's memory to the Taunton River Watershed Alliance, P.O. Box 1116, Taunton, MA 02780. Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason 508-697-4332

Bob will live forever in my heart and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him - what a special person!!
I am glad I got to be his girlfriend - Bob and I were friends for many years - we graduated together, were at the shop together and at weddings, dances and camping together. People often thought we were a couple years before we officially were - maybe we were "soul mates".

I miss him so much and I just crave hearing any stories about him - he had amazing abilities although was not a braggart - for example; I heard the story of him stepping off a pier on to a windsurfer, going around the pond then stepping back on the pier without getting his feet wet! Not an easy task!!
I always told him he had such an instinctive touch, it was uncanny - and I wasn't just trying to get him to massage me more!! Boy do I miss the massaging... and the spooning, and the laughing, and the kissing. I love how he would show off his smoothly shaved chin with a big sloppy smooch. He didn't brag but Bob was a proud man and knew what he did well.

Although often a quiet fella, Bob was full of information and knowledge. Wherever we were visiting, Bob would bring me somewhere interesting. These scenic routes could be lengthy "detours" (frustrating to some). I call them "Bob-tours", and I appreciate all those times with him. In fact, I am grateful for all the time I had with him - too short, that's all!!

I will end with a cute "Bob quote" - I asked if he wanted to have children, he answered "no" and, surprised, I responded, "Oh, it just seems that you like kids so much." ... Bob said "Ya, the good ones."

Please share your memory with us.

Hello Lisa and the Johnson's,
As best friends with Bob through High School, we had many fun times. I always remember picking Bob up for school and he would come out the door with chocolate milk and toast. Very early morning hockey practices, getting caught with a fifth of Southern Comfort in wood shop, many canoe trips in Boy Scouts, camping out and getting soaked, fishing, going to the tenth reunion together, I think we left last.....but most of all and I will always remember, Bob stuck by me as a friend. I miss you Jasper! See you in heaven!

To the Johnson Family & Friends,
Barry and I are so sorry for your sudden loss. We have many fond memories of fun times with Bob at the Belcher's gathering...to meet him once meant you had a friend forever! I can imagine that my sister Debbie was there to welcome him to his next life.

Bob will be sadly missed. Although I only knew him for less than a year I came to know how Steve Belcher and sooooo many people loved and admired him. He welcomed me with open arms into the EB Community and I will always remember him for that.

We certainly had a lot of fun growing up on Cedar St. Bob was probably the most easy going guy I ever had the privelege of knowing. I am soo soooo glad that Bob And Lisa got together. They had so much fun together as I did with them. The sound of his unique laughter rings through my mind as I hope it will for days to come. My sincere sympathy to Merilyn, Ted, Carol, Scott, Jill, Lisa and Jack. May you find peace and comfort from all of us who loved Bob........

This is Lorraine's daughter Leila and I remember Bob being apart of the Tirrell family for as long as I can remember, maybe not by blood, but he was still family to my grandparents, mom, aunts and uncles. My prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time. Please try to remember the good moments and the many laughs so that he may live on in all of your hearts.

Our hearts go out to Bob's family at this difficult time. We keep all of you in our prayers. His sudden passing is untimely and I'm sure will be very difficult for quite some time. Bob sounds like a terrific soul whose spirit will live on in the outdoors and all that he loved.
With Sincere Condolences,
The Fiores

WE DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO SHARE WITH YOU JUST HOW MUCH WE LOVED BOB. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT FRIEND. THOUGH WE HAVE NOT SEEN HIM SINCE MY MOM PASSED HE HAS BEEN IN OUR THOUGHTS ON MANY OCCASIONS. THE TIMES WE THOUGHT OF HIM ALWAYS LEFT A SMILE ON OUR FACES, THE GOOD TIMES ARE TOO MANY TO WRITE OF, WE CANNOT THINK OF ONE BAD TIME, ALTHOUGH WE HAVE SHARED UNHAPPY TIMES THROUGHOUT OUR LIVES. WE WERE THERE FOR EACH OTHER THROUGH THE ROUGH TIMES TRYING OUR BEST TO FIND THE GOOD IN WHAT WAS HAPPENING OR JUST GET THE OTHER TO SMILE THROUGH IT. I STILL REMEMBER AS A JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLER PRACTICING KISSING BOB WITH ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS ROSE, IT WAS ONE OF THOSE THINGS WE LAUGHED ABOUT ALL THROUGH OUR LIVES!! HE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED BY MANY! WE LOVE YOU BOB AND ALWAYS WILL.

Bob, if there was anyone who knew how to live life, it was you. Your outlook was truly inspirational and your "one of a kind" presence will be tremendously missed.
Our condolences to Lisa, and your family and friends. They are in our thoughts and prayers.

I hadn't seen Bob in many years but remember with great fondness our many camping excursions and shared coming-of-age experiences. We enjoyed numerous travels to the big outdoor concerts of the late 70s and rainy weekends in the Presidential range. He will live in the arms of my memory as a fascinating and genuine fellow, warm of heart, open of mind, and accepting of all that life offered. I loved Bob, as did so many others of his acquaintance. He was unique.
