John Mara Obituary

PELHAM, N.H. John F. Mara Sr., of Pelham, N.H., formerly of Easton, Mass. and Taunton, Mass., died Saturday, Oct., 2008, at his home in New Hampshire. He was 86 years old. He was born in Stoughton, Mass., son of the late Charles and Verna (Gay) Mara. He was the husband of the late Elsie (Lundin) Mara; father of John F. Mara Jr. of Pelham, Phillip Mara of Maynard, Mass. and Joseph Mara of North Easton; grandfather of Andrew Mara of Maynard, Kevin Mara of Maynard, Melinda Mara of Pelham, and Krystal Mara of Pelham; father-in-law of Sheryl Mara; brother of Paul Mara of Florida, Donald Mara of Florida, Leo Mara of Brockton, Mass., Julia Peterson of Florida and the late Charles, Thomas, Richard Mara and Verna Fisher Mara. John was a graduate of St. Marys School in Stoughton and Brockton High School. He attended Lincoln Institute. He worked as a Quality Control Supervisor for Raytheon Company in Bedford, Mass. for 34 years. He was a life member and Past Grand Knight of the Easton Knights of Columbus, life member of the Easton VFW Post 2547 and a life member of the American Legion Post of Easton. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Africa and Italy. John was a past member and treasurer of the Easton Democratic Town Committee, former member of the Easton Finance Committee, former member and clerk for 26 years of the Easton Zoning Board of Appeals, and past warden at the Voting Polls for 24 years in Easton. He was the Treasurer of Operation Sunshine, Eastons support group for Desert Storm Troops, past member of Pine Oaks Golf Club in Easton and a member of Colonial Estates Assoc. in Taunton. Funeral from the Copeland-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 38 Center St., Easton, Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Main Street, Easton. Calling hours Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. Mr. Mara,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
