Avis Swift Obituary

MIDDLEBORO Avis E. Swift, 78, a longtime resident of Middleboro, died Monday, after a prolonged period of ill health. She had resided at the Oak Hill Nursing Home for the past two years. During her younger years, she was a telephone operator and homemaker. A victim of Juvenile Diabetes, she received a medal from Joslin Clinic of Boston for surviving 50 years with the disease. Marriages blessed her with three children, who survive her, Wendy A. Tedesco of Middleboro, Mark J. Caruso of Plainfield, N.H., and Eric H. Caruso of Bridgewater; and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that donations be made to the Perkins School for the Blind Talking Books Library, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

My sympathy goes out to Wendy, Eric and Mark and your families. I loved your mom very much and counted her amoung my closest friends. You know the story Tuesdays with Morrie well for me it was Sundays with Avis. She always greeted me with "is that my Cheryl" talk about feeling special!
Her faith was and will remain an inspiration for me. I feel blessed to have known her. I introduced her to many of my family members and friends and they fell in love with her too. Many of them began visiting her on thier own. My husband Chris, sons Dan and Sean and daughter Shannon will miss her so much as well, she was always praying for them. I will treasure all the stories of her life she shared with me and I just know she will be one of the people to greet me and accompany me to Heaven when it is my time to go home to the Lord. I will feel her loss for the rest of my life.

Avis you can now dance again, sing again and see again and you are doing all with Jesus! That will give me comfort until we meet again I love you.
Your Cheryl

I remember Avis growing up in Cochesett. Time passes and we all go our own ways. She was a beautiful young lady back then. My sincere sympathy to her family.
