Anthony Thompson Obituary

EAST BRIDGEWATER Anthony Thompson, 81 years, of East Bridgewater died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family after a brief illness. He was the husband for 59 years of Jean (Gormley) Thompson. He was born and raised in Scotland, a son of the late Robert and Mary (Caird) Thompson. Mr. Thompson immigrated to the United States in 1965 settling in Brockton for 20 years. He retired to Daytona Beach, Fla. where he was a resident for 14 years, and had been a resident of East Bridgewater for the past eight years. Anthony served in the British Army from 1946 to 1948 and had been employed as a welder for New England Iron and Steel Company, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed soccer and reading. In addition to his wife Jean; he is survived by a son, Anthony Thompson of Brockton; three daughters, Rose Johnson and Jean Hamilton both of Bridgewater and Mary Carlino of Hyannis; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Samuel and Gerald Thompson. Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123), Brockton, Sunday, 2-4 p.m., with a Funeral Service at 4 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
