Harry Nava Obituary

Harry Nava Hanover Harry Nava, 95, of Hanover died while in the loving care of the staff at Cardigan Nursing Home in Scituate on Nov. 3, 2007. Born in Cambridge, Harry grew up on the family dairy farm in Kingston. He worked as a maintenance welder for Ocean Spray Cranberry Canners from 1963-1941, where he met Helen Stasiluk. They were married in 1942, soon after Harry had joined the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, Harry was employed by various automotive repair shops and worked out of Navas Auto Body shop located in the back of his Hanover residence. Harry never considered himself retired and continued to work on cars and trucks for many years. He kept busy by repairing lawn mowers and other small engines until he was 94. Because of the dedicated support offered to him by the Hanover Visiting Nurse Association and his thoughtful neighbors and friends, Harry was able to live independently at his home of 61 years, until breaking his hip this past May. Harry was a call fireman out of South Hanovers Engine Co. No. 5, a member of Phoenix Lodge, AF&AM in Hanover and the Whitman United Methodist Church. His wife of 53 years, Helen (Stasiluk) Nava, predeceased him, he is survived by his daughter, Arlene Marchant and her husband Roger of Marshfield Hills; his sister, Delia Ferreira and her husband Joseph of Kingston; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Katherine Cappella, Mary Cushman, Charles, Angelo, George and Fred Nava. A family funeral service will be held in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St., Rockland. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hanover Center Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Hanover Visiting Nurse Assoc., 550 Hanover St., Suite 35, Hanover, MA 02339, Whitman United Methodist Church, 503 South Ave., Whitman, MA 02382, or the Phoenix Lodge, P.O. My Deepest sympathy to the whole family, I didn't know this man but he had accomplished quite a bit in his life. Also being a Call Firefighter from Cohasset, My hat is off to any of my fellow fighters who fought fires back then. Once again I'm sorry for you loss.

Mr. Nava,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
