Giovanni Risio Obituary

Quincy John Risio, husband of the late Maria Serena, died at home on June 20, 2008 after a long period of illness. He was 87. John, the youngest of six children, was born in Casale di Cocullo, a small mountain village in Abruzzo, Italy. During World War II, he was a prisoner of war in England. After the war, he and his family lived in Venezuela before moving to the United States and settling in Quincy in 1962. John was a licensed electrician who loved his trade. He was an active member of the Order of Sons of Italy in America and the Lions Club of Quincy. An energetic spirit, John could often be found walking Wollaston Beach, telling stories about the "Old Country," or enjoying time with family and friends at the Villa Rosa (founded by his late sister Marianna Marinelli). Family was always a priority for John and he especially derived great pride from being a grandfather. John will be deeply missed by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Sabina and Silvio Marinilli of Quincy, his four loving grandchildren, Julie, Angela (husband Anthony), John (wife Sevan) and Steven and great-grandson, Luca. He is also survived by his brother Giocondo Risio of Rome, Italy. "Uncle John" is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann's Church in Quincy on Tuesday, June 24th at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Lydon Chapel for Funerals, 644 Hancock Street, Quincy, Monday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Expressions of sympathy in John's memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02168 or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th floor, New York, NY 10001.
