George Whalen Obituary

Abington George F. Whalen of Abington, 73 passed away Thursday, July 3rd, in his Abington home after a battle with cancer, his loving wife Elizabeth by his side. Born in Brockton he was the son of the late George F. and Avis M. (Blanchard) Whalen. He was raised in Abington and was a graduate of Abington High School, Class of 1953. He attended Boston University Jr. College and Chamberlain Jr. College and was a member of the United States Army Reserves. Before his retirement, he worked for 41 years as Data Center Manager for Stop & Shop / Bradlees Division. He enjoyed computers and his model trains. In addition to his beloved wife Elizabeth H. (McMakin) Whalen he is survived by his sons James F. Whalen and his wife Paula of Plymouth, Thomas J. Whalen and his wife Cyndi of Brockton, his daughter Jeanne M. Whalen of New Bedford, his dear sister Marcia Beattie of Pembroke, his grandchildren Nichole, Jenna, and Rebecca Whalen and Robert and Sheyla Carew, his great-granddaughter Natalie, as well as many dear friends. His services will be held Saturday, July 12th at 9:15 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a mass at 10 a.m. in the St. Joseph the Worker Church, Hanson. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Abington. Visiting hours will be held Friday July 11th from 5-8 p.m. Donations may be made in his name to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368. Dear Libby,
