William Bowles Obituary

North Quincy William J. Bowles, Sr. 83, of North Quincy died August 17, 2008. He was the beloved husband of 60 years to the late Ann B. (Coyne) who passed away on March 6, 2008. A decorated WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Bowles saw action on the beaches of Normandy, France, as well as operations in Rhineland, Ardennes and Northern France before being honorably discharged as a Sergeant in January of 1946. Known by all to be a hardworking provider for his family, he was especially handy in fixing up their family home -having completed several renovation projects over the years. He was also the owner and operator of Freds Auto Body in the South end of Boston for many years before retiring in the mid 1990s. He was the father of William J. Bowles, Jr., Thomas Bowles, Robert Bowles, Mary Ann Thornton, and Ronald Bowles. Brother of Jack Bowles and Mary Demetri. He is also survived by many cherished Grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was the loving father of the late Daniel, Joseph, James and Steven Bowles. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend his prayer service this Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at the Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams Street, Quincy Center. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the start of the service, beginning at 11:30 a.m. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at the MA National Cemetery at Bourne. Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army in Europe fighting the Germans during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
