John Salvador Obituary

SCITUATE John A. Salvador of Scituate on September 22, 2008, age 85. Loving husband of the late Barbara E. (Gillen). John was born and raised in Dorchester. As a young boy he summered in Scituate where he was an Irish Mosser and met many lifelong friends. John served with the Army during WWII with the 1993d Engineers Comp. Platoon 310th Division, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and European African Middle Theater Campaign Ribbon. After his tour in Europe with the Army, John settled in Scituate and worked for the State House as a Capital Police Officer, where he met his wife of 58 years, Barbara. He later served with the Scituate Police Department as a Police Sergeant for 32 years. John and his wife made hand carved wood seagulls that were sold to gift shops all over the world. John was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, long-time member of Scituate Beach Assoc. and past treasurer of Scituate Etrusco. Devoted father of Cathleen Gilman and her husband George of Norwell, Christine Williams and her husband Mark of Byfield, Jodie Swider and her husband Christopher of Scituate, Ellen Riedel and her husband Capt. Jeffery Riedel USN of Stafford, VA, John A. Salvador, Jr. and his wife Laura of Ponte Verde, FL and Andrew Salvador of Burlington, CO. John was preceded in death by two brothers Billy and Jake Salvador. Also survived by nine grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate on Thursday, September 25th at 8:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Marys of the Nativity Church, Scituate at 9:00 AM, burial to follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Scituate. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Johns name may be made to Scituate Etrusco Assoc., One Common St., Scituate, MA 02066. Visit www.mem.com for online memorial. dear salvador i remember when we had the world famous peanutbutter crackersi came ruler hockey and the time when johno and was down in the police station down stairs in shooting gallery shooting at everything thats when we told no more down there lol i just wanted to say it was great to meet you and yor family you were like a father figure to me oh i forgot when you always brought patches my dog in the house all time that was cool i miss you sign michael liberty

Mr. Salvador,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifce-first for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army in Europe during WW II and secondly for the citizens of Scituate when you served with the SPD.
