Edward Murphy Obituary

Edward Murphy ROCKLAND Edward R. Murphy, 81 of Rockland died on September 28, 2008 at the South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockland after a period of failing health. He was born in Weymouth son of the late Joseph and Grace Murphy and was raised and educated there. Mr. Murphy was a Navy veteran of World War II. He had formerly been employed at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy and for more than thirty years he was a driver for Baystate Ice Cream and Mitchell Foods in Abington. After his retirement he worked for several years as a custodian at the Cedar School in Hanover. He was formerly a member of the teamsters Union. Husband of the late Alice H. (Brown) Murphy, he is survived by his daughter Jeanne E. McKim of Abington, his sons, John J. Murphy and his wife Marsha of Pembroke and Wayne A. Murphy and his wife Julie of Rockland. He was also the father of the late Edward R. Murphy, Jr. He is the brother of Frank Murphy of WI and the late Patrick Murphy, Mary Slatkavich, Robert Murphy, Kenneth Murphy and Grace Dolan. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 11:30 a.m. in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street ROCKLAND. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, September 30, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. Donations may be made to the Activities Fund of the South Shore Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 115 North Ave., Rockland, MA 02370.
