James Callahan Obituary

James Thomas Callahan BRAINTREE James Thomas Callahan, 80 years of age passed away at his home in Braintree unexpectedly on Friday October 3, 2008. Mr. Callahan was born in Boston and was educated in Boston Schools. He was a Korean War Army Veteran. He was a Dorchester resident for most of his life before moving to Braintree in 1994. He worked his entire career in the maintenance industry specializing in plumbing. He worked for the YWCA of Boston and also for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jamaica Plain. He then worked as a maintenance supervisor for a Real Estate Management Company located at Rowes Wharf in Boston. He retired 30 years ago. When his children were young he was known as the neighborhood Dad. He would take all the neighborhood children to the beach or out for ice cream. James is the beloved husband of the late Blanche Theresa (Kenworthy) Callahan who died in 2003. He is the loving father of Mary Lou Davis married to Thomas Davis of Lunenberg, Massachusetts, Patricia Callahan of South Boston, Katherine R. ONeill married to Richard ONeill of Braintree, Dorothy T. Callahan of Braintree and Patrick J. Callahan married to Margaret Callahan of Lewiston, Maine and the late James Henry Callahan who died in August of this year. Beloved brother of William Callahan married to Dorothy Callahan of Boston and Francis Callahan married to Maureen Callahan of Weymouth. Brother-in-law of Velma Cullinane of Boston and Marie P.O. Callahan of Dorchester. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral from the Mortimer N. PeckRussell Peck Funeral Home, 516 Washington Street, BRAINTREE on Wednesday at 9:00am. Followed by a Funeral Mass at the Church of St. Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, BRAINTREE HIGHLANDS at 10:00am. Burial will follow at the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home from 4-8pm on Tuesday. Memorial donations in Jims memory may be made to the Massachusetts Veterans, Inc. (a program for homeless veterans), 69 Grove Street, Boston MA 01605 or to the American Diabetes Association 330 Congress Street, 5th floor, Boston MA 02210.

Mr. Callahan,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Grampa,
I find comfort knowing that You, Nana and Uncle Jimmy are all together again. I know that you are all happily watching over us. I will never forget watching Gilligan's Island, Popeye and the Price Is Right with you all the time. I was very blessed to be able to live in a house with you and Nana not many people are able to do that and because of that you have helped in molding me into the woman that I am today. You are truly missed! Until we meet again....
