Philip Balcom Obituary

Philip David Balcom WEYMOUTH Philip David Balcom of Weymouth passed away on Friday, October 3, 2008. He was born in Boston in 1919. He graduated from Norwich University, VT in 1938 and was Valedictorian and a member of Skull & Swords Academic Honors Society, Epsilon TAU Sigma, THETA CHI and from Rutgers University, NJ in 1940 with a Masters in Chemistry. He was a World War II Army Calvary Veteran. He was an Executive for Plymouth Coated Products in Plymouth, Hanover and Whitman for 20 years from which he retired. He was President and Treasurer of Abrasive Products Corporation, Braintree; Director of Norfolk County Trust Company, Brookline; Director of Washington Mills Electro Minerals Corporation, Grafton; Chairman of the Board of Michigan Abrasives Corporation, Detroit, MI; He was an avid reader, enjoyed swimming, football, and spending time with his family. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Reid) Balcom of New Brunswick, NJ. Father of Philip R. and his wife Joanna of Rockland, James P. and his wife Mary of Naples, FL, Robert L. and his wife Margaret of Middleboro, and Margaret (Lyon) and her husband Toby of Endicott, NY. Brother of The Rev. John M. Balcom of Amherst, late Paul Balcom, the late Grace Marion Balcom and the late Teresa Louise Balcom. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. in Christ Church Episcopal, 12 Quincy Avenue, Quincy. Burial to follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting Hours Monday, October 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. in the Hamel, Wickens & Troupe Funeral Home, 26 Adams Street, Quincy Center.
