Josephine Wallace Obituary

Josephine Wallace MILTON Josephine Jo Barnum Wallace, age 79, a long-time Milton resident, died at Massachusetts General Hospital on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 after a brief illness. She was a great-grandniece of the showman P.T. Barnum. Born in New York City, Jo lived in Pelham, NY before moving to Milton. Jo was a graduate of Milton Academy, Class of 1947. She was an Eastern Ladies Junior Figure Skating Champion and the National Ladies Figure Skating Champion in the late 1940s and then became professional. She skated with Dick Button and Sonja Henie, and performed at dinner theaters and the Statler Hotel chain. Jo then joined the Ice Capades in 1955. After her association with the Ice Capades, Jo later returned to Milton and taught figure skating at Milton Academy. Jo entered the real estate business after 10 years at the Academy and was an associate at Hunneman & Company, Coldwell Banker, Jack Conway & Company and most recently G.K.R. Residential Real Estate, all of Milton. During her career in real estate, she won many awards of distinction. Jo was a member of the Skating Club of Boston, The Greater Boston Real Estate Board, and the Milton Hoosic Club. She was the director of the popular Hoosic Follies for several years and also a past Club Governor. Jo was an avid golfer and tennis player at the Hoosic Club. Jo is survived by her husband John D. Jack Wallace, her two sons, Alfred W. Trenkler and David Johnson Wallace, her daughter-in-law Judy Lloyd, her brother William Barnum of Boston, her honorary daughter Ellen Ochs and son Jamal Ait Hammou, and her step-sister Amy Wilson of Vermont. I just now learned of Jo's death. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. I had the pleasure of purchasing the home where Jo lived as a teenager in Milton and we shed a little tear together when I moved to Charleston. Jo added so much to the town and I will be forever grateful for her friendship.

I can't believe that Jo has left us. And I find it hard to think of her as "resting in peace"..she is probably already organizing something "up there"! God bless you, Jo!
And my heartfelt sympathy to Jack and Alfred and David...and all who miss her!

I will never forget Milton's best real estate agent. she and I worked together for three years at Jack Conway R/E, she was my favorite person there. Wll never forget the picrures she showed us when she was a professional ice skater in her younger years. My heart goes out to you Jack, she was the best plus she had a great sense of humor. Heaven knows her now.
