Robert MacGregor Obituary

Robert Owen MacGregor WESTPORT Robert Owen MacGregor, U. S. Navy Veteran, 90, of Westport, Mass., died Monday, October 13, 2008 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, MA. He was the devoted husband of Marguerite Carol (Maynard) MacGregor. He was born in Dedham, MA, the son of the late Archibald and Marion (Tick) MacGregor. Mr. MacGregor graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and attended Massachusetts Nautical Training School n/k/a Massachusetts Maritime Academy before proudly joining the U.S. Navy where he served in Africa and the South Pacific during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1945, he returned home and ran his familys business, The Archibald MacGregor Upholstery Company in Dorchester, MA. He retired in 1978 and settled in Westport, MA, spending his winters in Puerto Rico. Sailing was his passion and with his family he sailed the waters of Cape Cod, the Elizabeth Islands, Marthas Vineyard and Nantucket on their 33 Columbia sloop, Fortune. Mr. MacGregor is survived by his brother and best friend, MacLaren H. MacGregor of Kittery Point, ME, his sons, Robert Bruce MacGregor of Wakefield, Rhode Island and Rob Roy MacGregor of Westport, MA, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service and burial will be privately held at the National Cemetery, Otis Air Force Base, Bourne, MA. Mr. MacGregor,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
