Dora Becker Obituary

Dora K. Becker HOLBROOK October 15, 2008, at the age of 101. Wife of the late Franz Becker and Hermann Kuhlmann. Loving mother of Hannelore Pacheco and her husband Manuel of Holbrook and Ursula Clark of Saugus. Devoted sister of Hanna Klusmeier of Germany, the late Luise Weber and Anna Jipp. Also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Holbrook. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Memorial Visitation Wednesday, 4-7 p.m. Burial in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree at a later date. Dora Becker was born Dora Meyer in the small village of Sehnsen, Germany. When she was born, she weighed only three pounds, and the midwives put her in a small shoe box they used as an incubator. When Becker was young, she and her mother and sisters worked on a small farm in Anemolter. She married Hermann Kuhlmann in 1929 and moved to Bremen, where they had daughters Hannelore and Ursula. Becker's husband had a trucking company, and she helped out with deliveries. After his death, she worked cleaning office buildings. During WWII, her home was bombed; luckily, nobody was home but they lost everything. Dora visited the United States in 1965 at the age of 61 to see if she would like to live here and moved to Holbrook in 1967. When she came to the States, she helped around the house and tended to her three grandchildren. Last November, her family celebrated her 101st birthday at the Nursing Home, where the staff named her Dora the Explorer because she was always going around visiting other residents.
