Norma Walsh Obituary

QUINCY Norma Marie (Saville) Walsh, passed from this life on October 19, 2008 at Colonial Rehabilitation Center in Weymouth. Born on July 7, 1925, Norma lived from the age of 15 in the same Quincy home built by her father, Roger Saville and where her mother Elizabeth lived until her death in 1977. A member of the first graduating class of St. Mary's School in West Quincy, Norma then graduated from the Woodward School for Girls in 1943. Married to the late Harold W. Walsh, formerly of Goffs Fall, NH, Norma worked for the telephone company and for many years loved being the librarian at St. Mary's School. She retired at age 72 from her last job at the Atlantic Fundraising Co. A devoted wife, dedicated mother and deeply loyal friend, Norma cherished her attachment to her community and her church, St. Mary's, where she was a life-long communicant. She greatly valued academics and education, encouraging her children and grandchildren to achieve advanced degrees. In her youth she greatly enjoyed horseback riding and dancing the jitterbug. With a love of music and the arts, she enjoyed all the cultural offerings of Boston, especially the theater. An accomplished knitter, in recent years Norma often gave hand-knit scarves to many. Norma is survived by her daughter Karen Walsh Pio and her husband Rick Pio of South Hadley, her son Mark Walsh and his wife Maryellen of South Weymouth and her 3 grandsons Devin Pio and Dante Pio, both of South Hadley and Adrian Pio, attending Brown University. Her funeral will be from the Dennis Sweeney Funeral Home, 74 Elm St., Quincy Center on Thursday, October 23 at 10:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, W. Quincy at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends are invited. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family offers gratitude to Dr. Hal Burstein and to Ms. Georgia Litsas, NP for seven years of life-sustaining care at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and to all the wonderful nursing staff. Mark & Karen,
I just really can't believe that your mom has passed.. The childhood memorie's all of us kids that grew up in the neighborhood of your mom will always be carried in our hearts!! She was the "Matriarch" of Grogan Ave, and will be missed greatly.. I know you both will find comfort in the person that she was to anyone that ever crossed paths with her, and those are the memorie's that will carry you through the coming months and years..To have lost one friend and now to have lost your mom so soon after Josette will be difficult to say the least. I have no doubt the two of them are sitting together once again...
Hugs

Karen and Mark,
Your mother was such a wonderful person. I am so grateful that we all kept in touch through the years.
We have been able to share so many stories of accomplishments of family members, and share funny stories that I will cherrish close to my heart. I'm most grateful that my daughter was able to feel the kindness and warmth that your mom shared with all of us kids on Grogan Ave. I will miss her smile, her stories and her gentle ways tremendously, but I know she is at peace with the angels.
God Bless!

Karen and Mark:
So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. I remember all the good times we had when I lived at 33 and how she and your grandmother taught me how to knit. She also took a great deal of time helping my mother to get me ready for my wedding. She will be greatly missed and I will make sure she is kept in my prayers.

Karen & Mark,
I have childhood memories of you both and your parents. I am the granddaughter of Al & Mary Beaudry, who lived next door to your parents on Grogan Ave (they're all probably up in heaven reminicing about old times) I remember your parents as kind, loving individuals to all of us kids. May you be comforted by close friends in this sad time
