Shirley J. Hersey

HINGHAM Shirley J. (Strohl) Hersey, 76, a Hingham resident for most of her life, died on Friday, October 24, surrounded by her family at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a long illness. She was born in Reading, Pennsylvania and grew up in Hull. She leaves her husband of 57 years, Gordon T. Hersey of Hingham; and was the mother of Laura Bustamante of Hingham, Lucille Julian and her husband Karl of Hingham and Lynne Hersey of Hull. Sister of Vesta Frees of Reading, PA, the late Roma Vautrinot and the late Robert Strohl. Also survived by her grandchildren; Juliet Fulgoni and her husband Stephen and James Bustamante all of Hingham; Shawn Klippel, Vanessa Klippel and Stephen Klippel all of Reading, PA. Shirley was raised with her cousins; Alice Hamer of Scituate, Lois Lichtenberger of Hull and Janice Kroboth of Colorado. She was an active member of the former Hingham United Methodist Church and most recently was a member of the Weymouth United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 28 at 11 a.m. at the Weymouth United Methodist Church, 747 Broad St., East Weymouth. Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Monday evening from 5-8 p.m. Rather than flowers, donations in her memory would be preferred to the Center for Cerebellar Neurobiology, c/o Mass.
