John Finch Obituary

John H. Finch

UNION, SC-- Mr. John Hydrick Finch, 89 of 709 Rice Avenue Extension, Union, husband of Catherine West Wells Finch died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Wallace Thomson Hospital.
Mr. Finch was born in Pauline, SC September 10, 1918, a son of the late William Daniel Finch and Mellie Smith Finch. He was a 1936 graduate of Pauline High School and a Veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. Mr. Finch was a former member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and was an active member of Buffalo Baptist Church. Mr. Finch was also retired farmer. He was first married to the late Helen Bates Bryan Finch. Mr. Finch was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a step-daughter, Linda Betenbaugh and husband Bruce; two step-sons: Kent Wells and wife Jan and Stanley Wells and wife Brenda all of Buffalo; five nieces: Sally Crain of Spartanburg, Ann Finch of Columbia, Emily Finch Cox and husband Hugh of Spartanburg, Beth Varner and husband Lowell of Glen Springs and Judy Gray and husband Phil of Charleston; three nephews: Marion Finch of Spartanburg, Dan Lawson and wife Teresa of Texas and Bob Tennyson of Pauline; six grand-children and fourteen great-grandchildren and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Finch was predeceased by two nieces, Brenda Lawson and Gloria Tennyson; and a nephew, Elliott Lawson.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Buffalo Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at the Buffalo Baptist Church prior to the service and also immediately following the graveside service at Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Buffalo Baptist Church, 1424 Main Street, Buffalo, SC 29321 or to Philadelphia Baptist Church, 5128 Hwy. 56, Pauline, SC 29374.
The family will be at Oakmont Residential Center, 709 Rice Avenue Extension, Union, SC.
