Harriett Austin Obituary

AUSTIN, Harriett L.
Age 84 and longtime resident of Murphy Hill Rd., Horseheads, passed away in the comfort of her home on Thurs., July 17, 2008. She was born Sept. 20, 1923, daughter to the late Archie and Lena (Ziegler) Sawdey. She was predeceased by her husbands, Louis Bowdy and Leslie "Buss" Austin. In addition, she was also predeceased by her sisters, Phyllis "Betty" Kent and Caroline Kinley. Her surviving family includes her daughter, Linda (Ron Bridgeman) Fuller of Horseheads, NY; several nieces, nephews and their families, including Shirley (Ray) Sullivan, Joyce (Jeff) Easton, Clara Davis and Barbara (Bob) Putnam; sister, Carol Doane; and sister-in-law, Florence Austin. Harriett was employed at the Remington Rand until they closed and then went to work for Corning Inc., until she retired. She loved her home in the country, including the deer, her hummingbirds, blue birds and even an occasional bear strolling through her yard. Family and friends are invited to call at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St., Horseheads, on Sunday, July 20, 2008, from 4 - 7:00 p.m. Her Service will take place at the funeral home on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats where she will be laid to rest beside her late husband, Leslie Austin. Special thanks to the staff of Southern Tier Hospice for the wonderful care given to mom - especially from Christine Eckert, Mary Ann Donnelly, Lori Mosteller and Mindy Brown. Their kindness will never be forgotten.

Dear Linda...so sorry for your loss. harriett was a wonderful lady. uncle buss loved her dearly. she was so nice to my mom Edith..when my mom was so ill.harriett always brought sunshine into a room with her...my mom looked forward to your visits at the nursing home. harriett was a ray of sunshine for her whole family...and she will be greatly missed. you are a wonderful daughter linda and you took such loving care of her. now mom and dad,harriett anad uncle buss are all together..in peace. my prayers are with you linda and ron.....love connie beals sampson of wellsboro,pa
