Jervis Boughton Obituary

BOUGHTON, Jervis L. "Jervie"
Lifetime Gillett Farmer
Passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28th, 2008, at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 87. A lifelong member of the Gillett, Pennsylvania community, Jervis was born at home in Gillett, June 5th, 1921, son of the late Ernest and Yulan Pritchard Boughton. Surviving him is his beloved wife and friend of 55 years, Anita Miller Boughton of Gillett; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Beverley Boughton of Gillett; granddaughter, Patriece (Jason) Barnes of Elmira; great-grandson, Mason Barnes; niece, Connie (Bill) Flack of Kirtland, NM. His only brother, Glen Boughton, predeceases him. Jervis also leaves behind his sisters-in-law, Sarah and (Leon) Hall, Elizabeth Miller, all of Elmira; and brother-in-law, Gaylord Miller of McDonough, GA; and very special friends, Milton Austin and June Austin, both of Gillett. He was a devoted member of the Gillett Baptist Church, where he was a past deacon. He was a member of the Gillett Grange. Those whom knew Jervis best will remember him for his dry sense of humor and tall tales about cows over the hill. Using his four-wheel drive Jeep to bus school children to school during winter days, and being a very hard-working man that was always up to something. Whether it be helping a neighbor or working on a project, he was very active. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Gillett Baptist Church, Route 14 South, to celebrate the life of this hard-working man, whose life centered around his family, friends and the neighbors of his community, on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. Funeral Services honoring his life will be held there at 3:30 p.m. The Reverend Allen Goss will celebrate "Jervie's" service. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in Jervis's name to the Memorial Fund of the Gillett Baptist Church, C/O Nancy Oldroyd, RD #2, Box 6, Gillett, PA 16925. To Polly and family;
So sorry to hear of Jervy's passing. I remember the hard work he put in at his farming. My older brothers had helped him bale hay in the field between your property and my parents home on Glen Street. May the Lord be with you in your time of sorrow, and may He bless you with the Love of all.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
