Charles Nelson Obituary

NELSON, Charles D. (Duke Sinko)
Entered into rest Saturday, August 2, 2008, Mr. Charles D. Nelson, 74, husband of Jeannie Sinko-Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a native of Elmira, NY and a 1952 graduate of the Elmira Free Academy and had resided in the Augusta, GA area for the past 39 years. He was a US Navy Veteran who proudly served on the USS WASP and was a member of the USS WASP Reunion Group. Mr. Nelson retired as Columbia County Construction Manager, was a member of the John S. Davidson Masonic Lodge #677 F and AM, the Scottish Rite Bodies, and a Shriner. Mr. Nelson was also a member of the American Legion and Church of the Holy Comforter. Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Alta Sinko; sister-in-law, Christine Sinko; brother-in-law, Franklin Brown; niece, Nance Ferri. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by his brothers and sister-in-law, George and Jean Sinko of Fort Myers, FL, Merle Sinko of Elmira, NY; and a sister, Mary Brown of Horseheads, NY; as well as several nieces and nephews. On behalf of Holy Comforter, Funeral Services were held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., at Christ the King Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dr. Cynthia N. Taylor and Rev. Dr. Joe Bowden officiating. Interment followed at Westover Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Church of the Holy Comforter Building Fund, 1105 Fury's Lane, Suite C, Martinez, GA 30907.

I was sorry to learn of the death of Mr. Nelson. I knew him when I served as Clerk of Superior Court of Columbia County. He was the Construction Manager for the addition to the office. I will always be grateful for his help and guidance during that time.
