Emmy Holliday Obituary

HOLLIDAY, Emmy Busch
Age 67, died Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Hospice Savannah after a prolonged illness. Emmy was born in Girard, PA, daughter of the late Heinz and Elizabeth Busch. She attended Union High School and the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduating from Penn, Emmy worked for the Shippensburg, PA school district. In 1963, she married her high school sweetheart, Jack Holliday and relocated to Anniston, AL, where he completed military service. They made their home in Corning, NY for 37 years. Upon Jack's retirement from Corning Incorporated, Emmy and Jack moved to Skidaway Island, Savannah, GA; returning each summer to their home on Keuka Lake in Hammondsport, NY. Emmy's friends will remember her spirited and generous nature, volunteering at hospitals, libraries and museums. She enjoyed creating greeting cards, decorative painted furniture and personal accessories, donating proceeds to charity. Her creative sense also led her into women's fashions and working in trend-setting boutiques in Corning. Emmy was an ardent reader. She was passionate about history and researching genealogy. She studied arts and antiques, developing a keen eye for object d'art. Emmy is predeceased by her parents and sister, Georgia Busch Engstrom. She is survived by her husband, Jack; sons, Dana and wife, Rebecca of Glendale, CA, Brian and wife, Andrea of Danbury, CT, and David and wife, Kelli of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Emmy, Georgia and Michael; sister, Charlotte Busch Miller of Erie, PA; sisters-in-law, Joann Wildman of Minnetonka, MN and Deborah Holliday-Weber and husband, Robert of Erie, PA; and many beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church. Interment will take place at a later date at the Girard Cemetery, Girard, PA. Remembrances may be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416; or to the Southeast Steuben County Library, 300 Nasser Civic Center Plaza, Corning, NY 14830.

We have fond memories of Emmy in Shippensburg and will treasure them. Our relationship has been long distance but we have always looked forward to the Christmas cards and an occasional greeting. It is with sadness and joy that we say goodbye to Emmy. She leaves behind family and friends, but is at peace in a better place. Her memory will will remain with us all forever.
