Jerry Eichenlaub Obituary

EICHENLAUB, Jerry
Formerly of Horseheads, unexpectedly passed away on August 4, 2008 at his home in Houston, TX. He was fifty years old. Jerry graduated from Horseheads High School in 1976, receiving a New York State Regents Scholarship. He moved to Houston in 1978 with his wife, Linda, where he attended North Harris County College and received an Applied Science Degree in Electronic Technology. Jerry was employed in the Information Technology industry. He served the IT group at Baker Botts, LLP in Houston with distinction for fourteen years. He was loved by many of his co-workers for his dedication, support of others, his sense of humor and fun-loving spirit. Jerry loved to travel. He and Linda took many excursions to Mexico where he was thrilled to explore, scuba dive, and experience the local flavors. With geology as a hobby, Jerry was an avid Rock Hound. He loved to polish his discoveries and display beautiful examples of nature in his home. As a child Jerry began his lifelong love of spelunking with his three brothers as they mined for "diamonds" in Herkimer, NY, and he and Linda explored many of the caves in the Hill Country of Central Texas. Jerry is survived by his parents, Charles and Molly Eichenlaub of Horseheads; his brother, Dennis and sister-in-law, Kathy Eichenlaub of Houston; his brother, Ken Eichenlaub, also of Houston; nephews, Mike and John Eichenlaub of Elmira Heights; and their mother and close family friend, Maryanne Eichenlaub, also of Elmira Heights; nephews, TJ, Tim and Tracy Nugent of Houston; nephew, Chad Eichenlaub of Austin; several grandnieces and nephews; and his best friend, Linda Eichenlaub of Houston. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, Main Street, Ovid, NY at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 20th. Following the mass, Jerry's ashes will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, Ovid. Jerry will be greatly missed by his family and friends in both Texas and NY. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Eichenlaub family at 655 Veteran Hill Road, Horseheads, NY 14845. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerry's memory to the Houston Ear Research Foundation, 7737 Southwest Freeway, Suite 630, Houston, TX 77074, attention Ms. Jan Gilden.

I was Jerry's guidance counselor at HHS. He was, as I can recall after nearly thirty some years, a decent student scholastically. Most of all I remember our talks about his future. He was much to young to leave us. My sympathy to his family. Charles Millard

I knew Jerry as a kind, capable co-worker. He was always courteous to me and seemed genuinely happy to help in whatever way he could.
