HOOEY Robert H.
Age 84 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Wednesday August 27, 2008. Bob was born February 4, 1924 in Big Flats, NY the son of the late Frank and Maude Fitzsimmons Hooey. He was a Veteran of WW II serving his country with the US Army and was a member of The Clarence R. Oliver American Legion Post # 154 in Elmira Heights, NY. Bob married his wife, Irene M. Saylor Hooey, on September 11, 1947 and they would have celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary on September 11, 2008. Mr. Hooey owned and operated Bob Hooey's Service Station in Elmira Heights, NY for several years and worked part-time at Twin Tier Tires in Elmira, NY. Bob and his wife Irene enjoyed square dancing with their friends with The Modern Western Square Dancing Group. They also were members of The Sunshine Squares who visited hospitals and nursing homes. Bob and Irene were also members of The Big Flats Historical Society. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his step father Raymond Easterbrook, his daughter Diana Lee who passed away in 1954, and by his grandson James R. Hooey who passed away on June 23, 2007. Bob loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Mr. Hooey is survived by his loving and devoted wife Irene M. Saylor Hooey; daughter: Patricia Brown of Elmira, NY; sons and daughters-in-law: Elwin "Ed" & Annemarie Hooey of Detroit, Michigan, Robert L. & Renie Hooey of Horseheads, NY, and Wayne H. & Denise Hooey of Elmira Heights, NY; grandchildren: Bryan Hooey, Chrisy (Rick) Newell, Jessica (Joe) Rich, Jeremy (Carrie) Hooey, Jason Becraft, Amanda Hooey and her fiancé Richard Rogers, Ronnie Middaugh, Laurie (Anthony) Lewis, David Middaugh, and Kimberly Wood; several great grandchildren; brother: Raymond Easterbrook of Big Flats, NY; sisters and brothers-in-law: Helen Ebersole of Mechanicburg, PA, Charlotte & Richard Stone of Horseheads, NY, and Jean & Dr. Leon Chamiedes of New Hartford, CT; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Elaine & Jessie Tompkins of Odessa, NY; two uncles, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Friday August 29, 2008 from 6-8 PM. Mr. Hooey's Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday August 30, 2008 at 10 AM. The Rev. Rick Price will officiate. Interment in Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats, NY where Full Military Honors will be accorded Mr. Hooey. The Family will provide their own flowers and those wishing may remember Mr. Hooey through memorials to The Big Flats Historical Society 258 Hibbard Road Big Flats, NY 14814.
