Gerald Sterling Obituary

STERLING, Gerald O.
Age 86, of Pine City, NY, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Chemung County Nursing Facility. He is survived by his wife of 66½ years, Mary Tickner Sterling; daughter, Sandra (David) Cary of Tennessee; sons, Robert (Sue) Sterling of Pine City, NY, Kenneth (Gloria) Sterling of Millport, NY; daughter in-law, Sandra Sterling of Pine City; brother-in-law, James (Sharon) Savino of Montour Falls, NY; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Farmer, Pine City; brother, John (Phyllis) Sterling of Pine City, NY; sister-in-law, Norma Tickner of Wellsboro, PA; uncle, William Avery, Ulster, PA; also several nieces and nephews. His son, Roger Gerald Sterling; and daughter, Roxanne Savino predeceased Gerald. Gerald was a member of Pennsylvania Baptist Men's Fellowship. He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad. He went to work for the Town of Southport Highway Department also retiring from there after many years of service. Gerald enjoyed wood crafting, hunting, fishing and doing backhoe work, but what he truly enjoyed was driving the children around on the train at the Fair Shake Ice Cream Parlor in Pine City. Family and friends are invited to call at Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY on Sunday, August 31, 2008, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. with Funeral and Committal Service there Sunday at 4:00 p.m. The Reverend Donald Rockwell will officiate. Interment will take place in Webb Mills Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those wishing may make memorials to the American Cancer Society. A "Candle of Remembrance" may be left for the family in Obituaries at www.olthof.com.

Gretchen {Cary} Kizer and family would like your entire family to know you are in our thoughts and prayers .
