Carol Clarke Obituary

CLARKE, Carol Cook
Age 83, of Wellsboro, PA, passed away September 3, 2008 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Malcolm; brother and sister-in-law, Jeffery and Alma Cook of Sussex, England; sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Debbie Graham of Roanoke, VA, Michael and Robin Clarke of Painted Post, NY, James Clarke of Lansing, IL, and Terry Dunn of Canandaigua, NY; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Carol was born November 17, 1924 in London, England, the daughter of Charles and Margaret Cook. She completed her schooling in England and volunteered to serve her country as part of the Land Army in World War II. Upon arriving in the United States, Carol worked as LPN in a private practice as well as Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. Later she worked in clothing retail for Dunham's Department Store and owned and operated the children's clothing store, Small World, as well as teaching fashion merchandising at the Allentown Business School. Carol was extremely involved in her community. She served on various Laurel Festival committees, was a founding member of the Wellsboro Women's Chorus and was an integral part in creating the first Dickens of a Christmas. She was an avid golfer as a member of the Tyoga Country Club and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Wellsboro American Legion. A memorial service will be held Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, with calling hours from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, West Avenue, Wellsboro, with Rev. Peter DeVantier officiating. Burial will be at the Wellsboro Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations in her memory be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60601.
