THOMPSON, Helen Jean McCarthy
Age 87, of Forbes Drive, Smithfield, died Sunday evening at her home. Born in Elmira, NY on January 16, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Michael Frances and Anna Loretta Danaher McCarthy. Helen was a nurse anesthetist at various hospitals and a veteran of the US Navy. Surviving are sons, Charles Gregory Thompson of Bolivar, MO, Stephen Thompson of Columbia, SC, Kevin Thompson of Knoxville, TN, Gerard Thompson of Colonial Heights, VA, Joseph Thompson of Smithfield, NC, Andrew Thompson of Charlotte, NC, David Thompson of Smithfield, NC; daughters, Jeanette Hay of Boonville, IN, Mary Claire Thompson of Smithfield, NC, Loretta Owens of Granville, OH, Monica Mounts of Fort Branch, IN; sisters, Ann Hurley of Cotuit, MA, Sister Mary Brigid of Rochester, NY; 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Anna McCarthy; by her sisters, Marion McCarthy, Margaret Trainor, Mildred Rush; and by her great-granddaughter, Keller OkHui Thayer. A Funeral Mass will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008, at St. Ann's Catholic Church with burial following at Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Underwood Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service to be conducted at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 4057 US 70 Business West, Clayton, NC 27520.
