HARMAN, Lyle E.
Age 78, of Central Avenue, Wellsboro, PA, died September 21, 2008 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Phyllis Stuart Harman whom he married June 14, 1952. Lyle was born December 6, 1929 in South Williamsport, PA, the son of the late Max L. and Ruth Hurr Harman. He was a graduate of South Williamsport High School "1947", and attended Lycoming College. He received his BS degree from Mansfield State College and Master's degree from Bucknell University. He worked for Carson Finance Company during college and immediately after. In 1963 he was a Guidance Counselor at Liberty High School until his retirement in 1990. Lyle attended Wellsboro United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ossea Lodge #317 F & A.M., Wellsboro, the Williamsport Consistory, and the American Legion. He loved gardening, was a coin and stamp collector, and an avid Penn State fan. Lyle was a US Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict, and served on the USS Rochester. Surviving are his wife, Phyllis; daughters and sons-in-law, Terrie Harman and Tom McCarron, Eliot, Maine, Sallie and Charles Newlin, Wellsboro, PA, and Nancy Harman and Terry Bryant, Wellsboro, PA; son, John Harman, Sunbury, PA; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and William Dixson, Harrisburg, PA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jack. Friends and family are invited to Lyle's Life Celebration on Thursday, September 25, 2008, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, a "Life Celebration Home", 139 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA. A Masonic Service will be held at 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral to be held Friday, September 26, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wellsboro United Methodist Church, Queen and Main Streets, Wellsboro, PA., with Rev. Marion Hartman officiating. A luncheon will follow in Fellowship Hall. The committal service will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the Wellsboro Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be sent to the Wellsboro United Methodist Church, or the Ossea Lodge #317 F& A.M.
