Retired Aprons

Second daughter,Sister to six,
there was nothing she couldn't fix.
Niece,Cousin to many,Aunt, one who loved to stitch and plant.
Freind to all,Neighbor,Teacher,Farmer,Wife,Mother,later Grandmother,Great Grandmother,Great Great Grandmother.

My Gram wore an apron over her dress every day which collected many surprises along the way rather eggs, apples, peaches,or pears,or read ripe tomatoes or vegetables to pare.
Gram wearing a clean apron, was known for making that best apple pie.
Somtimes her apron was a hiding place for grandchildren who were shy.
Her aprons made from gingham or calico were laid aside when to town she would go.

Gram favored bib aprons with a pocket where you would find a tissue in it.
Perhaps she used her apron to dry her hands after doing the dishes in the white enamel pan.
A special one, worn for Christmas, sometimes was given by one of us.
Her apron became her as told by those who met her.

At age 100 plus 10 1/2 months Gram's aprons were retired for her earthly work among us had finally been completed.

Not many people are as fortunate as I to have a grandmother for as long as I.
Or to know someone who was a century old.
If only we had asked for stories to be told.
But Gram's memory had begun to fail though she still loved to receive mail.
She'd read her mail to whoever would listen"To slow down and listen"perhaps was her lesson.

Lessons tought to those who take time to listen are recalled over and over again each season and passes on to future generations for we all need to learn the same lessons.
Next time I see an apron I hope to be reminded of this lesson to take time to listen and perhaps someone's loneliness lesson.

Grandma has always been a special part of my life. She has taught me so much from crocheting, canning, cooking and the harder things in life. I've always thought of her as my guardian angel and even though I can't hug her or hold her hand. She will be in my heart, my thoughts and prayers forever. Grandma, I love you -I'll miss you - Love always Lora

Great grandma you are a very special person. You have touched all of our lives in so many ways. Your smile and laughter brought happiness and joy to anyone who ever knew you. Grandma we love and miss you more than words can say, especially all the hugs and kisses you gave us throughout the years. Lets not forget all the good home cooking and baking we had the honor of eating when we came to your house. Grandma we will hold your memory in our hearts forever, just knowing you are watching over us makes me believe everything will be ok. "xoxoxoxo" we love and miss you.

To Florence family: She was a very sweet, caring neighbor and taught me things when ever she could. Alway was happy with a smile to make others happy too. She will be missed as did Edson too after moving from Catlin. My prayers and thoughts will be for the family and god will get you all threw it all.
