Lela Rogers Obituary

ROGERS, Lela M.
Age 96 of Jefferson Village, Watkins Glen, NY, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, October 23, 2008, at her apartment surrounded by her loved ones. Lela was born on December 22, 1911 in Cortland, NY, the daughter of the late Fred and Eva Bessie Wolcott. She was predeceased by her husband, Herald Rogers, who passed away in 1992. Her brothers, Charles Wolcott and William Wolcott and sister, Kathryn Galley, also predecease her. She is survived by her son, Richard Elwood of Corning, NY; grandchildren, Cheryl Bubacz of Elmira, NY, Candice Mayhew of Charlotte, NC, Lynn Elwood of Nashville, TN and Richard D. Elwood of Elmira, NY; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Ellen Corning of Deland, FL and Louise Miller of Cayuta, NY; brother, Donald Wolcott of Tampa Bay, FL; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends. Lela was a member of the Glen Baptist Church of Watkins Glen, NY. She loved the Lord and served the Lord through music, playing her accordion. She lived her life with quiet grace, unshakeable dignity, unending devotion to her family and friends and boundless love for everyone. It is with heavy hearts that we give this most beautiful soul back to God. At her request there will be no prior calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Monday, October 27, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Vedder and Scott Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls, NY. The Rev. Teddy Herron will officiate. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Odessa, NY. Those wishing to remember Mrs. Rogers may do so through contributions in her name to the Glen Baptist Church, 3311 Reading Road, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
