Laurenza Davis Obituary

DAVIS, Laurenza (Kemp)
Age 90, of Wellsboro, PA, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, October 25, 2008, at her residence. Laurenza was born on July 21, 1918 in Farmington, PA, the daughter of Crena and Roscoe Kemp. She was married to the late Thomas "Carleton" Davis. Laurenza received a teaching degree from Mansfield University and taught school in the area for five years, sometimes riding a horse to get there! She left teaching to be a full time homemaker, only returning to work many years later to help her husband at Davis Sporting Goods. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church for about 60 years, where she taught Sunday school and coordinated the rummage sale for many years. She enjoyed gardening, wearing hats, grandchildren, crossword puzzles and dancing with the Canyon Squares for over 20 years. Laurenza is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Cindy Davis, Barry and Mary Davis of Wellsboro, PA and Lynn and Sherry Davis of LaPlada, MD; a daughter and son-in-law, Sara and John Vogt of Wellsboro, PA; six grandchildren, John, Nathan, Regis, Morgan, Tom and Johanna; five great-grandchildren, Ben, Janessa, Simeon, Sydney and Shayna; and one brother and sister-in-law, David and Grace Kemp of Nelson, PA. Her husband, T. Carleton Davis; her brother, Bob Kemp; and sister, Dorothy Kemp, preceded her in death. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, November 3, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church, Wellsboro, PA. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 5:00 p.m. on November 3, 2008 at the church with Pastor Glen Hallead officiating. Burial will be in the Farmington Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Laurenza's name to The First Presbyterian Church, 130 Main Street, Wellsboro, PA, 16901. Arrangements are entrusted to the Jacquelyn A. Buckheit Funeral Chapel, Crematory & Monuments, PC, 637 S. Main Street, Mansfield, PA 16933. www.buckheitfcandcrematory.com

What a wonderful woman Rennie Davis was. I saw her and Carleton at my foster mom's funeral and told them what wonderful memories I have of them from my childhood on Stickley St. Their back yard was the best place in the world to be in the winter. Rennie and Lucille Smith turned all the kids on our street into Witches and Black Cats, etc. at Holloween.
My love and prayers are with you all at this sad time, you were so blessed to have such wonderful parents.
