It was early in the morning a year ago that I got the phone call about Dan. My heart broke and nothing made sense. How has the world kept spinning for a year? It's not the same without Dan in it. I love you little brother, so much.

October 29, 2009

Three hundred sixty five days ago Dan was with us. We have had three hundred and sixty five days now without Dan. I have missed him so much all these days, and will continue to miss him the rest of my days. I love that two people are able to see now because of the gift of Dan's corneas. Lord, I miss Daniel, oh I miss him so much.

Dan, you are missed every day. The passage of time has not diminished the memory of your sweet smile and twinkle in your eyes. It has been over three months, hard to believe. One thing that helps is that I know you are watching over all of us, especially Lee and Justin.

Christmas morning. The first without Dan (and mom). Dan, missing you very much. Just listened to your birthday message to John on his voice mail - hilarious. Always the comedian. So you! You never disappointed us! Always made us laugh. Justin and Lee, thinking of you today, always. We are blessed with all the wonderful memories of our time with him. For that, I am thankful.

We will all be thinking of Dan on Thanksgiving. It was his favorite meal, his favorite time of year. He loved the turkey, loved Lee's pies. He just loved everything about the day! I will miss him so much. I will miss talking to him on the phone and hearing him make the gobble, gobble sound effects. One thing I know I have to be thankful for is that I knew Dan, and had him in my life. My life was better because of him. Let's all have seconds of the dark meat in Dan's honor. Gobble, gobble.

Dan’s passion of all things great – family, friends, and memories, and all things beautiful – exotic hardwoods and old trees, is admired. His love of motorcycles, food, and beer – to be remembered. His wild antics and humor - elephant calls and foreign accents - all wonderful memories, too. He was an old soul - compassionate, concerned, committed, devoted, and loving. The sadness is overwhelming. The pain is deep. The memories are fresh. Forever a void. Know that you are missed. Thank you, Dan, for leaving us with such wonderful memories of our time together.

Dear Larrea Family,
Your family was an integral part of our life in Monterrey and I remember you all with great fondness. I was Dan's classmate and can still picture his wonderful smile (and him cracking up at Danny Morimoto's antics). Our class of '71 from ASF is in close contact with each other, and we will sadly miss not being able to cajole Dan to our next reunion. Know that he will be greatly missed.

Lee, Justin and my Larrea cousins:

My deepest condolences on your terrible loss. Dan brings back some fond moments in my life and the beginnings of my interaction with this beautiful country of ours. I was fortunate to meet him again here in Florida and catch up on 30 years of life. I will always remember his outgoing and joyful personality.

Dear Larrea Clan,
Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss. Dan was one of the first Larrea siblings that I met and the kindest. He was quiet, funny and supportive. My fondest memory is of him with his ponytail riding a motorcycle and giving Paul a ride. I'll miss you Dan -- you were a great step-son. May you rest in peace.

Thank you Dan - for leaving us all with such fond memories of the wonderful time we spent together. Of course those fond memories amplify the sadness of our loss, but they also highlight the magnitude of your positive influence on those who knew you.

Uncle Dan was a really great guy. I remember every time he would call our house he would use a different accent or come up with a weird story of who he was. It would always put a smile on all our faces. He had a great out look on life. He was always happy and doing something funny. he was a party animal but that was just him and we all loved him for that. I will always remember the time when he gave me a ride on his motorcycle, it was the only time my mom would let me ride one. He was greatly loved and he will be missed so much. I love you Uncle Dan.

Dan was my oldest best friend. I've known him since the day he was born. I realize how lucky I was to have him as my little brother and my wonderful friend. I will miss him every day. He was one of the good ones; in fact, he was the best.

Lee and Justin and to the rest of my siblings...
I have such an overwhelmingly sad and heavy heart. I am still reeling. I will always miss Daniel, my brother... His zest for life. His love for his family. His laughter. He could make us all laugh.

Lee, Justin, Linda, Sue, Deb, John & Ron,

Although we have never met you Lee & Justin, Dan was a very special person that we had the pleasure of knowing quite well many years ago. His slow easy smile, laughing eyes and wonderful and contagious laughter is something we will always remember. He was a kind and gentle and loving soul who touched every person he met.

Dan was well loved by all his family and friends and will be greatly missed by them all.

We know this is a hard time for you and want to offer our prayers and support during this time of grief.

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to Dan's family. I knew Dan through business, he helped me several times over quite a few years when I needed quality hardwood, and he was always a pleasure to deal with. I was not a very big customer but he always treated me as though I was, and he was always so professional and classy in how he handled things.
I will miss him and his visits to my shop.

Dan and I went back. Early 70's or so. Dan and I would talk on the phone, or he'd show up at my house on his BMW bike once and a while. We always caught up on friends and family issues. He met his wife when he visited one day at my apartment. She lived above me. I will miss him greatly!
