My deepest condolences, Sophie. I will always treasure my Sunday mornings w/Gene @ WEHH. One could not be in a room w/Gene & not be touched by his love. My prayers are with you in this time...

I'm so sorry to hear of Gene's passing. I was one of his caregivers on rehab at St. Joseph's. He was a friendly man who worked hard to get better. I'll never forget his Christmas polka show from his hospital room. He had so much fun doing it & so did we, watching & listening. You have my prayers & sympathy.

Mrs. Martin & Jean Ann
I am a dear friend of Jean's and just learned of Mr. Martin's passing. I am so very sad and send my thoughts, prayers and love during this difficult time. I had only met Mr. Martin once and did not know him well through our meetings, but knew him through his daughter's eyes. He will be missed terribly! To the family I send our sympathy in your time of sorrow. To my dear friend Jean our thoughts, love and prayers! Love Joy & Ed Zwicker

Sophie,
I just got back from a conference in Daytona Sunday when I received the news! The journey you've been on recently is remarkable. The yoke is lifted now. I have so many great memories "engineering" his Polka Show. He taught this country farm boy all about customs and music I never thought existed. Think of all the people he made a difference in their lives every Sunday morning and of course during the week. Mother's Day always rang hundreds of phone calls in three hours. I never would have had a holpki or perogi if it weren't for Gene. Yum! I always worked from his hand written sheets each week. Amazingly, his show came off quite professionally. We would do five live remote broadcasts at each of the Fesitvals. Jak Szie Masz" (sp), Mr. Polka. I'll play The Choo Choo polka just for you Sophie.

To the family of Mr. Polka, I worked with Mr. Martin at WELM on Sunday mornings spinning the records for his Polka show. He was so informative, smart and an all around nice man. I learned a lot from him during my stay in radio. I'll remember the fun times we had and the humor that he found in the littlest things. He certainly loved what he did and all who knew him loved him back. He will definately be missed.

I took care of Gene at the Nursing Facility, he was a pleasure even if he was having a bad day. If you talked to him about polka you were his life long friend. He will be sorely missed. Sophie I send you and your family the deepest sympathy in this trying time. God Bless!

Hearing of Gene's passing fills our hearts with sadness. His smile, constant friendship, love of people and polkas, made him a special person to many.
Sophie and Gene were part of of our lives for many years and we will already treasure the great times we had together.

Sophie,
Regretfully I learned this morning of the passing of Gene.
The first one I thought of was you knowing how the passing of a loved one impacts the one left behind.
You and Gene have not been forgotten and never will be be cause you all were so much a integral part of the Polka movement in Elmira along with your loving family and friends. Joanne and I extend our deepest sympathy to our longtime friends who shared a number of similar likes as well as the enjoyment of living. Sophie, sorry we're unable to make Gene's Funeral but we will attend Mass at our parish at 7:00 Monday morning with prayers offered for all who knew Gene and You as friends and members of his Polka Family.
Peace and Love, Stan and Joanne Douglas

We will always remember Gene as one of the nicest guys ever. He was positive and upbeat, and his love of polka music was contagious. Sophie and Gene welcomed us to their home on many occasions, which made us feel like we part of their family. May he rest in peace. We will miss him dearly.
